1. PS is a class-less game. There are no classes and no predefined jobs. You create a character of a race of your choice, and tweak the initial stats to your liking. From there, you can do anything you'd like (that is currently in-game, of course).
2. There is one free-for-all PvP arena at the moment. PlaneShift is a PvE game more than PvP though, so while you can challenge others to duels outside the arena, that is definitely not one of the main activities of the game.
3. There are no mounts yet, but they are planned for future releases.
4. No levels either :) You train stats and skills to progress your character.

Take a look around the main website, as well as some threads marked "Important" in the forum. They will help you learn more, as well as answer any further questions you might have.

Welcome to PS!

I beg to disagree with "there are no levels." It is true there is no such thing as a class level since there are no classes however everything you can train in the game has levels which depend upon the trainers you can find. Character stats such as strength or agility can be trained up to values in the triple digits. Skills also range to three digits but not all have the same amount available due to lack of implementation or possibly intentionally. There are things you can learn that do not depend on levels such as npc backgrounds and other settings. These are learned doing quests and reading in-game books. Of course doing quests sometimes affect factions causing specific npc types to regard you at a positive or negative level.

Training stats and skills is rather different from having a "max character level." The former allows you greater control over the growth of your character, while the latter is a general number often used for boasting in other popular MMOs ;) So no, there are no levels in PlaneShift. But that doesn't mean there are no numbers.
