A question about the different versions

We just began 0.4 not that long ago, and I have a question about the version numbers.  In most cases wouldn't 0.4 be the last alpha stage and 0.5 begin the official beta.  If that is true wouldn't this be the last version with huge sweeping changes in each release?  Should the game be generally complete when 0.5 starts with mainly bug fixes?  I do understand that 0.5 will be a ways off, but I'm just curious.

As far as I get it, a beta version is far from final. It does not really matter when the devs will call it Alpha or Beta, since what you mean is the Stable release with version 1.0... From that point on only bugfixes and minor changes should happen and everything else should be implemented by then.

But don't worry too much about it, we are very far away from version 0.5 and even further away from version 1.0
