Guarding of dropped items

Hello!

I have searched the bug tracker but didn't find a matching entry. And as I have been away from the game for months, I haven't dealt with this feature until now and don't know if this is actually a bug or not.

I have noticed that I can still pick up items which are dropped on the ground by someone and marked in their description as "Guarded by XXX" (XXX = name of character).
The owner wasn't standing right near the item but was still online and I was able to verify once that he wasn't far.

So my question is: Is this a bug? Or this is just how it's working?
Maybe if the owner is far away the item shouldn't be marked as "guarded" any more?

if the owner gets too far away from the item that is guarded it will become unguarded and anyone can then pick it up.

But it was still marked as "guarded" in the description when I picked it up.

That is a bug, the "Guarded by ..." mark doesn't disappear when the owner leave the vicinity.

That's just there so if you find a lone item you can see who the previous owner is. It's not supposed to clear when the owner leaves the vicinity of the item. Doing so would be incredibly time-consuming. Not a bug.

However, the "guarded by" should clear when the item is in your inventory and was not previously owned by you. If that's not the case, please use our bugtracker

I think the "guarded by" disappears when I put the item in my inventory but I'll check again later nevertheless.
