« on: May 14, 2008, 08:54:56 pm »
I recently applied to help PS to  help with their PR and Marketing, now its a big task and im looking for other "SKILLED" pr and marketing persons.

If you have any real life experiance in these matters can you drop a quick post here - its a but unofficial at present but if you have the same vision as i have in regards to the positive activity of planeshift then you need to be involved.

At the end of the day it can do nothing more than evolve your career.

By the way i have over 15 years promotion experiance and a professional affiliate of the chartered institute of marketing.

SO

If you are studying communications, business studies, media, marketing etc etc etc

Or are active in these roles already

PLANESHIFT NEEDS YOU

By PR and marketing, do you perhaps mean publicity?  I consider publicity to be one aspect of public relations, but I consider public relations to include many kinds of interactions and responsibilities, publicity being only one of them.  Public relations includes everything from conflict resolution and community building to message control and customer (or client) service (and inquiries).

Marketing can also be looked at as the practice of building personal relationships, both within and outside your organization.  You want to connect to your client, your industry, and the individuals connecting you to the end users.

I'd also say that marketing isn't the same thing as publicity, marketing itself is just another aspect of public relations, and publicity is included in your marketing strategy.  Marketing can mean your entire strategy from designing your product to communicating it to your market and then delivering it to clients, and your marketing strategy can even include the consumer experience after the clients have the product in their possession and are using it.  Publicity more specifically means mentions in outside press.

I think for all these things, excellent communication skills are a very high priority.  While confidence is always important, it's also possible to come across as too strong or aggressive.  Coming across as professional and dedicated is also important.  That can mean triple checking your spelling and punctuation, or writing in the style appropriate to your audience.  It shows clients and coworkers that you care, and it reflects better on the product or service you're representing.

Edit, I just noticed that you weren't asking for tips.  I apologize, I misread your post the first time through.

Akira, thankyou for your comments and there is no need to apologise at all, all feedback is welcome and your post is a welcome one.

You are quite right of course in the differences and specifications between the practices and we require people of all skills to provide an effective presentation of the PS community for both the recruitment of players and developers as well the all important if possible financial supporters.

Of course my original post may not have clearly stated this however your addition sums things up quite nicely.

PS: in regards to any spelling or grammer errors in my post - well its not my strong point and i am very guilty myself of depending on spell check a little to often :)

Good post akira - any thoughts about joining the team?
