About the Updater being non-functional, my take on it.
« on: August 12, 2008, 04:02:35 am »
Hi.  I found this game through Wikipedia, and wanted to try it.  Much like other people, the updater/setup/client does not work for me.

I downloaded the game twice:  the first time as a Torrent to save on bandwith, (which I assumed was corrupted when it would not run), and a second time direct from your site.  I tried everything here that is listed on your forums (patched updater, config="True", replacing .xml with file provided, etc), to no avail.  I spent a lot of time on this, before and after finding the forums.  Which is where I found out that this problem is known but has not yet been fixed.

I understand this is a Beta release.  But could there not be something written on the downloads page to new users saying that the game client/updater currently won't work for them, and to check back later?  Again, I realize this is both a Beta and F2P, but at the same time it is unfair that I had to spend so much of my time on something that is known to have problems.  There should at the least being a note warning new users that they may download the game, but will have to wait for a new Updater to be written before being able to use it.

Peace, Cobalt.

PS:  I would have been fine with downloading the 4.0 version, had it been available in the downloads section.

Edit:  I am running WinXP.

"true" is supposed to be case sensitive I believe; if you're capitalizing it then that's wrong.

I don't remember if I had "True" or "true", because when that failed I copied the newer version of updaterinfo.xml (offered on site).  I tried what you said and changed the original to lower case, but it still didn't work.  Thank you for the tip, though.  Any other suggestions are welcome.

Peace.
