Thailand troubles!
« on: April 30, 2009, 07:52:16 am »
Dear All,

I have been running ./psupdater and it usually gives up around 50%. Undeterred, I try again. And damn it I shall keep on running it until I succeed!

However... I'm starting to wonder whether my geographic location is at fault for the general slowness of things. Is that why the updater doesn't want to be my friend?

In case anyone wants to know, I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty), Kernel Linux 2.6.28-11-generic (uname -m = x86_64), GNOME 2.26.1 and installed (successfully, I believe) PlaneShift-v0.4.03-x64.bin

Hardware

Memory: 988.4 MiB
Processor 0: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60
Processor 1: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60
Graphics: nvidia GeForce 8400m G 128 MB

The updater randomly choses a mirror each time you start it. One time you may be lucky getting selected a faster one, next time you may be unlucky.

To enforce a specific server, you might edit the file "updaterinfo.xml", declaring one of the mirror entries to 'id="1"' and commenting out the other.

Unfortunately, there are only few update mirrors available. And I believe Xordan's server may not be the fastest.
