Problems with the update/repair functions.
« on: February 16, 2010, 09:44:00 am »
I'm now down to my last few hairs coz i've pulled them out trying to get the client running.  :@#\

system specs:
laptop
Intel dual core T4400 2.2/2.2 Ghz
3 gig ram
250 gig HDD
Intel series 4 chipset 3gig ram onboard video

Running:
Win 7 (64bit)

Problem:
I have downloaded both the 32 bit and the 64 bit clients. I have updated them using the --console method and they report both were successfully updated and no more files were needed. I have made sure that all my drivers and OS are fully updated. I then used the repair function in both versions and found that the .zip and the client repairs failed on every attempt, and I've had no successful repair to these files as yet. I have checked the locations mentioned in the forum looking for any uneccessary .cfg files and shadercache dirs and found none. I have also checked my process list for psclient processes and found none running as mentioned somewhere else but can't remember where.
When I try to run the client, either from the launcher or the direct client files it crashes telling me that the client is the wrong version. How can i get the latest files for the repairs? Are there any download links for individual files such as meshes.zip?

I have been able to repair all but the art/meshes.zip file. The download gets to the last - before 100% and then returns failed after about 2 hours download time.

Any suggestions on how I can resolve the repair and client crashes? All ideas are very gratefully recieved because I think planeshift is a fantastic game, the best out there.

Thanks all..

Why are you doing -repair in the first place? After installing the game and doing update you should just play. The -repair option is dangerous and should not be used except when it is really needed!

Hi Jorrit.

Thanks for the reply.   :D

When I refer to the repair i am talking about the repair function that is a part of the launcher, not an arg to the console. This is a suggested possible fix mention all over the forum.

I've tried just about everything I could find and it still crashes as soon as planeshift attempts to connect to the server.

Hi Khaki

I'm using win 7 and have no idea where the reports are stored. Gimmi a lil while and I will have a proper root around in the system for that data. :)

ok...found it.

Crash ID= bp-28b2a2ac-4a39-4f48-ae73-260302100217

I get to the login screen, click on login, and then it goes into 'not responding' while trying to join the fragnetics rp server.

I've made sure all my drivers are current, disabled VBO and loader cache, graphics set as low as I can make them.

I appreciate any ideas..:D

if you keep getting the out of bounds error... blah blah..

what is this reffering to? is it a graphics problem?

I crash every time at the login screen. It's getting to the point when I'll simply dump the game! please someone help me find the solution!!!

Oh dear!

I get crashing out trying to login now. My character, jarrh madoom, is currently in deathrealm at the start point. When I log in and it loads the client quits unexpectedly every time. I have no idea if it's my setup and system or whether it's a game issue. My drivers are all up to date. My graphics set is the onboard intel express series4 chipset. My OS is win7(64bit) version 6.1.7600 build 7600. fully up to date via windows autoupdate. When I look for the crashid window it disappears too fast to note the id details. I'm using the new 5.2 client with all files passing the integrity check.

 Any ideas?..:)

Removing the shadercache from the planeshift application data to have it rebuilt (by simply running the client) might help here.

thanks bonifarzia

Where is that on my system? I'm running win7 and cant find my way around yet. using the search function fir shadercache returns no results.
Still crashing at world load as well.

I tried starting the game using the psclient file to bypass the launcher and it still crashed. Would that have cleared the cache?

Update to my problem:

I can now get into the game using 5.2 but i still have major graphics problems. I have no textures when out of the city or towns. Deathrealm is practically unnavigable. My graphics are fully updated.

Any more ideas my lovely ppl???

Where is that on my system? I'm running win7 [...]

The path for PS application data on Windows7 machines is
Code: [Select]
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\PlaneShift\There you will also find local files storing your options, chatlogs, books, screenshots etc. Note that windows has the annoying default behavior to hide some directories. You might need to check the show hidden fles and folders in your folder options to navigate for those files more easily.

It could be that intel onboard graphics chipsets have some very weird drivers that cause the trouble. For those machines where this was the case, system specs were significantly lower, tough.
