New Install Updater Failure
« on: May 17, 2010, 06:07:37 am »
I installed PlaneShift using the PlaneShift-v0.5.3 installer for Windows XP 32 bit systems.  I thought I had no updater and began looking for someplace I could download the updater.  However after finding the posts below in the forums I located the game file in the file tree (PSlaunch was not accessible from the start menu).

When trying to run PSlaunch it crashes and gives me a message saying it is not configured correctly.  I have tried to run both psupdater.cfg also the .cfg file for the client in both cases I get a message saying windows cannot open the file without knowing which program created it.

I had tried to get PlaneShift to work for me a long time ago but at that time did not have a computer capable of handling the client.  I just got a new used computer that handles graphics much better and am excited about finally being able to play PlaneShift.  I do remember that it used to have a setup icon that looked like tools which was used to configure the graphics.   I wonder if it would be possible to install the old setup and config programs so that I can configure my system to work with the new client?

Even better is this a bug? And if so are there fixes?  Do I just need to rename some of the files; and if so which ones need renamed with which extensions?

Please help; I have been wanting to play this game for years, because it is an authentic roleplaying game with a 3D engine, has detailed character growth/development/skill options, and most importantly is part of a collaborative non-profit motivated game where the players get to contribute in currently ongoing game development which gestalt is all about further development of an intricate and unique game.  I believe that I finally have a computer capable of handling the game and its graphics, and can't wait to get started.

I recently downloaded the client via the PS website, only to find that my client has no updater.
If I were to look in the PS program file folder I would only find an empty updater .txt document and a updaterinfo XML document with a bit of script in it, that I would assume would have been where the updater should be.
If I look in the start menu's program tab I would find; PlaneShift , PlaneShift Player Guide, PlaneShift Player Guide (German), and Uninstall PlaneShift.

If anyone knows where I could get a 'FULL' Client. Please tell me.

Hello, did you look in the Planeshift folder? The updater is PSlaunch now.

On a mac it would be applications>Planeshift>PSlaunch

You need a copy of "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package" available from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&displaylang=en
