Fix For Updater Problem
« on: April 28, 2010, 09:10:20 pm »
Okay, so I've been having nearly all the issues here since the new server that everyone else has been having.  Not being the admin, not finding the Skylab server, updater not working, etc..

Discovered a fix for that... Delete your PS client, and any files associated with it, including in -Library-Application Support-Planeshift

Then, redownload the client, and once it's finished downloading, PLACE THE PS FOLDER IN YOUR APPLICATIONS!!!!  Not the whole thing, just the Planeshift folder...This should fix the admin issue, and next time you open up PSLaunch, voila! Run the updater until it finishes, boot up PSclient, and enjoy!!
Hope this helped another afflicted Mac user like myself :)

Now if only there were an easier fix than reinstalling the entire game. :(

Please note:

There is a new installer now for Version 0.5.3 - this installer contains also a fixed pslaunch (which fixes the issue with wrong MD5 checksums - which blocked just the pslaunch update!).

LigH-  That's really good to hear, I think that's going to help a lot of us Mac users out there :)

Pandeegurl-  LOL i just got lucky :P glad it could help :D

Syenna-  You could probably use this fix without re-downloading the client, but its always nice to start over on a clean new file :)

I don't think u have to uninstall then reinstall it again because u can just move the folder to the application section can't you?

For Macintosh it may be that simple, I think I remember that was documented so several times.

Agreed, it probably really is that simple, just moving the folder may fix that specific admin issue... But the way it worked for me was to re-download it, then move the folder, rather than simply moving the folder without re-downloading.  That being said, I would not be surprised at all to find that re-downloading the client isn't actually necessary after all :)

But it never hurts to re-download everything just to make sure, there's been a few instances for me where that alone has fixed up some issues...

For some reason, it lets me use the updater, but every-time i use it nothing happens. What I mean is that every time I click it it says there is a new updater ready, so I click yes to let it update, and it goes, and does its thing, and right before it finishes, it quits on me. Any suggestions?

Do you still have this old 0.5.2.1 installation where the updater is broken?

The complete 0.5.3 installer should come with just that fixed version of pslaunch, which update fails and crashes. So please reinstall from the new installer version 0.5.3.
