Unable to attack Monsters

I am a Linux user, and I'm having issues with completing the quests. I'm currently trying to kill a rat, but the game tells me that I'm too far away to attack, even when I'm standing on top of the thing. I've tried moving around to see if there's a targeting error, then used /unstick and it told me I can't. PlaneShift is the only game that works on my computer at the moment, and I'm loving it, with the exception of this one problem.

Please help?

I know this is kind of out there... Sometimes the NPC server gets turned off, and thus you're not able to attack NPCs during that time... Has this only happened once, or is this happening frequently? If this is the first time, and or, it's happened before or at random times, it -MAY- be the server, not you (may as it, it may not be as well)

but in that case you get a "you cannot attack xxx" and not "you're too far away"
does this happen with all monsters?

Hmm, being "too far away" is a different issue, it sounds. If the NPC client was offline, NPCs would possibly be "impervious" (not even attackable). The shortcut to target the next NPC may select not the closest NPC each time ... but if you see the NPC targeted with the pink rotating crosshair on the floor, and still get that message, then there might be a bug to be investigated.

A GM or developer would surely like to see that if possible. You may try to call for assistance in the in-game "Help" channel, or in the IRC channel "#planeshift-gmtalk", next time this happens to you.

@Amaranth: What have you tried so far? Have you made an attack shortcut, done it manually, or gotten a GM to try and fix it?

A GM took care of the issue yesterday by resetting the rats.
