Questions about an outpost in the Stone Labyrinths
« on: December 08, 2010, 08:52:03 pm »
Hiya! I've recently joined Planeshift, and would like to ask some questions about the game world to be able to make a proper RP character. (Well, technically I had an account some years ago, but I left since I didn't really get hang of the game too well. Last weekend I decided to download the game again and start anew with a new character.)

1) During character creation I chose that my character had lived in a Stone Labyrinths outpost during her childhood/youth. Exactly what kind of a place would an outpost in the Stone Labyrinths be?

2) How far in the labyrinths would the outpost most likely be?

3) Would there be any "normal" people living a daily life in the outpost?

If anyone could help me by answering these questions, I'd be grateful. :)

Well, I can't, but I also can't resist to say... it's quite cool that you think so much about your char - I hope we meet ingame. Furthermore, don't be ashamed to change your character and it's story/history to a later time if you see that this will fit better.

I've been a forum roleplayer on Finnish forum RP sites since 2005. ;) PlaneShift will be somewhat interesting, since a) it's in English and b) it's basically chat-based, so less time to think of your reply and the reply will be shorter and with less describing. Shouldn't be impossible, though.

And character creation choises are only one possibility for her background, although I believe it would make an interesting one. :) I'll have to see what comes of it.

You can make a quite descriptive reply also with several "emotes" supported by the game (/listemotes), as well as with impersonating commands like "/me", "/my" and "/mypet"...

Character creation choices alter the starting attributes somewhat, but have rather little impact on your character so far. You can usually train your skills a lot more later.

Furthermore, skills are not the most important part of your character. They may help you surviving, they may support you in living your role mechanically too ... but you could pretend everything as well.

I'll take a stab at it, but I'm no Dev or anything so it's just what I've read and gotten from in-game NPCs that has lead me to think of the Stone Labyrinths in this way.

1. An outpost in the Stone Labyrinths would be a dangerous place, subject to numerous attacks by strong monsters.

2. I would say not as near to whichever Bronze Door you would choose to be the nearest one so that it would seem like just an attempt to gain more ground there, but not as far either so that extra assistance or supplies can be cut off. Maybe there are series of outposts further and further into the Labyrinths? For now you are pretty much free to decide all of that yourself.

3. No, I wouldn't say so. If that were the case it would be a very well fortified and guarded place. It would be the closest to a stable war-zone you'll get in-game so you would mostly just have skilled fighters and mages from the Sunshine and Shadow Squadrons respectively.

But as I said, I'm no Dev, so it's just educated guesses  :)

LigH: I know, it's just that if I RP on forums, an average reply is slightly above 150 words, most of it being description. However, that certainly wouldn't work while roleplaying in PS. :) And I didn't really make my choices based on what skills or stats I wanted, but more on what sounded interesting character-wise. After I'm done making a description for my character, I'll most likely start working on skills that the description says she has/wants to have.

Koios: That makes sense. :) So... since my characters parents were an animal trainer and a healer, they would both have had some kind of a reason for being there. With all those monsters around, there would have been more than enough material to be tamed, and people would very likely have been injured by the said beasts too. Yeee-es... Thanks. ;)
