Admin' rights?
« on: June 07, 2011, 12:02:10 am »
Hi, I'm new to this game after a friend linked me too it who has played for many years.
I downloaded the latest version (V0.5.7-x64) and tried to install. I was then confronted with the usual Admin rights stuff that installing on Windows 7 gives. I've gone through every possible way of allowing Admin rights that I know of and I can not get this to allow me to install. I have also tried changing the compatability and it gives the same thing set to Vista and XP.
I am currently running Windows 7 64bit and I also placed only 1 account on the machine which has 100% full admin rights.

When I load the installer (after telling the computer that "yes I know what it is") I am given a 'Language Selection' box, I select 'English - English' as this is my native language and select 'OK' it then gives me this message.

"This installer requires administrator privileges. Please become administrator before executing the installer"

As I said previously; I am admin and I've told it to run as admin, in several compatability modes too.
I would really like to try this game as my friend gave it a very good review (even if it can be a little buggy at times :P)
Thankyou for taking the time to read this and any help will be rather appreciated

I have done this, I have also ticked the box in 'Properties - Compatability' that says 'Privilege Level - Run this program as an administrator' I've also changed this under the second openable window through the button below this for "all" (even though I'm the only one) Users of the computer... It worked for something else once so I thought "why not try it?" ???

I also went through the Control Panal - User Acounts, and made sure that my account was definatly as I had set it. Everything that I know of that can be set to administrator is set to that and if I open it now... under my User name it has 'Computer administrator' listed. I'm not sure if there is anything else to change to Admin tbh as I've not been able to find anything else.

I tried to use a tool called WhoLockMe to find out what was not set right though this didn't seem to want to work on Windows 7 unfortunatly :-\
Any Ideas? :detective:

One thing that you can do it turn off the users account control.this stop it asking or saying about admin right.your can turn it back on later or leave it off.i myself leave it off as it seem to work at stoping you from doing anything than for you.

Although I forgot what it was called when I made this post; I have also already tried this to no avail :(
I wasn't sure what it would accomplish tbh, though and after restarting I was left with the same problem.
I prefer to leave it on though as I do change things on my computer quite often and it has allowed me to prevent unwanted items from sneaking onto my computer a few times.

Just checked and yes, it is all set to 'Allow'.
I also tried "Unblocking" it in the Properties menu as I know Vista always use to love blocking anything that Microsoft them selves hadn't put on the machine and still nothing.
My Firewall/Antivirus (Comodo Internet Security) also has no logs of any "intrusion" events of any kind and the only logs that it has of it is a re-occurring log of the initial launch of the Installer, which is a File Modification. I'm sure there is no block happening here though as Comodo is pretty good for keep logs of everything :). It just stops at this point as "I don't have admin rights :("

Ooop I got it... at least atm

Seems I had something set differently in Comodo.
Though tbh seen as it loads the installer to begin with, it shouldn't be that which was causing the problem as untill I accepted something else through Comodo it wouldn't launch at all under the new setting.
Ontop of that it was not giving an error message that was pointing toward that setting....

Lesson learnt I guess  :-[
Thankyou for taking the time to assist me in this though.
Not often I find a game development team that will respond so quickly. :)
I look foward to exploring your product  :beta:
