OOooh, new toy >:-D

hehe, I love mmo\'s and I\'m lookin at this and liking it, I\'ve read most pages on the site, and several threads here, and I gotta say I\'m impressed to think this is supposed to be a free game when it\'s released, as grand as your aspirations are, you could probably charge top dollar for the finished product, kudos to the designers...

now, is there anything that I should know that I haven\'t already read, beyond the thread about faq, downloading and installation process{have about four hours of downloading to do :*-( } or such.

also, I need to know the bare minimum, I\'ve been able to get games that req 750 mhz to run on this old 500 mhz, but that\'s as far as I can say, will it be possible to run this on the machine I\'m using or will I have to upgrade before I run it... lemme know before download is complete if you can, if not, oh well.

First of all: welcome tygerwilde. About the charging fees, the devs will not do that. but as very wise man once said: if you meet the devs IRL: buy them a beer !

Judging from the specs you gave, you\'ll probably have to upgrade. A lot depends on your ram memory and your 3d card though. It was unplayable on my PIII-733 mHz 64 SD RAM, TNT2 16mb. But that figures. If you got about the same system, i\'d recommend an upgrade of some sort. A lot will change during further development of the game, but right now, you\'ll probably experience (not lag !  ;) ) but low fps...

this system used to belong to my little bro, who\'s an even bigger gamer than me, (which is hard to say, I blame it on the wife and kid, they soften me up... ;D) he\'s pumped a lot into it, in fact, the only thing in here that was in when he bought it is the motherboard, he\'s doubled the ram, it had a new soundcard put in last year, all that good stuff.

I\'m not broke, I\'m financially challenged...

I\'d like to get myself a system I saw last week for 500 bucks, it was a 2.6 ghz pentium I think, with all kinds of toys... not the best, but a damn good price, but if I did, I wouldn\'t have rent... or electricity... or phone... or internet...

Ahh, being a family man....

Now i wouldn\'t do that just for PlaneShift now. not right now. Since right now it isn\'t worth playing at all, though it\'s a darn good tech demo. Just wait till next year, when crystal blue is among us for a while already, and then maybe you\'ll have a good reason to purchase that new system  ;)

you underestimate the power of the dark side >:-D

seriously, I\'ve been trying to get into the testing stages of a game for more than a year... to actually be part of something from the beginning... you know, I\'m a hardcore gamer, it sorta runs in my blood, my mom and dad, brothers... even my grandaddy was a comp tech, I forged my wife into a mini gamerette... my son (and soon to be daughter) will be raised in the ways of the game... my only problem is not having a system at the moment that can handle it... it gets really frustrating, I was accepted into beta 1 wave 2 for star wars galaxies... but they req 1 ghz...

The PlaneShift project is a very rare project. The biggest reason being no fees (including no paying for a CD, monthly fees or anything like that.) Another big thing that makes PlaneShift unique is the interaction between the dev\'s and players. They are a big part of the forum taking suggestions seriously. If you buy a new computer that would be great for other games as well because right now in PlaneShift, what you can do is limited. It is improving and a rate pretty good for people who are just volunteering their time. Welcome to the community tigerwilde.

well, if I get a comp, it\'ll be a while, I decided I\'m going to try it as is and see if It\'ll run, but now I\'m having problems with the run me bat, I\'ll be off searching the forums trying to uncover any hint as to what\'s wrong with it, if anyone wants to help me out, it reads, as of this moment:

copy /b PSV0.2.010.Part1 + PSV0.2.010.Part2 + PSV0.2.010.Part3 + PSV0.2.010.Part4 + PSV0.2.010.Part5 PlaneShiftV0.2.010.exe

it tells me 0 files copied, and there\'s no new exe file created
from what I understand it\'s supposed to create a new file  to run...

That\'s strange. They are all in the same folder? All five parts and the reassembler?

I simplified it by putting it all in my briefcase, which I don\'t use for anything anyway...

no, it\'s not working, I\'d use that tool that checks the size of the files, but it\'s not working either.

I might have found my problem, when I downloaded it, I used the default extension, which was .part1, so my files are titled. psvo.2.010.part1..part1, will this affect the program? and how can I fix that easily(hopefully without having to re-download everything)

ok, I got that working, but when I try to use the executable file, it tells me that it is not a valid win32 file, can someone explain this?
