Launch black screen

When I launch Planeshift, I get an empty black screen, but the Planeshift cursor shows up.  If I blindly click in the bottom right hand corner, it moves on to the next screen which does actually show up correctly.  I downloaded 0.5.7 and I am not sure it ever updated but it does connect to the server and let me play.  Is there something I can do to fix this?

I am playing on Windows 7 64 bit.  Thanks.

just some simple suggestions

* up to date drivers on your graphics card ( and which one do you have? ) ?
* try to set it to a smaller resolution if possible
* disable Areo when launching the game.

I have Nvidia's latest.

I tried your suggestions, but nothing worked.  I still have the same problem.

nvidia latest doesn't say much. it doesn't say which card and really neither the version because latest might mean a lot depending on the source of the drivers. for me latest is 280.36

Nevermind, I fixed it by making sure that pslaunch was using the Nvidia card and not the intel. Before that I only had the psclient using the nvidia card.  Thanks guys, problem solved, and now I am updating with no problems.  Excellent!

Unfortunately the linked thread doesn't offer a solution for my problem.

I bought a PeckardBell Easynote LS11HR. The system control panel shows two graphic cards:

* AMD Radeon HD 6650M
* Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

I guess ps is using the AMD device by default. If I disable this device pslauncher shows the loaded textures in the menu.

The device driver doen't offer any options to set a graphic card for a certain application.

well,

1. I tried "lucidlogics virtu". Thank you for the tipp, unfortunately my hardware isn't supported. So the program exits with an error message.
2. Today I reinstalled the AMD driver and now I have a control panel where I can set what card to use. Even this doesn't help. I can select one of two options "energy efficient" and "high quality" The tool is called "AMD dynamic switchable graphics". But in both cases the window is just black.

I think that's it for my hardware, I can't play planeshift anymore. Propably in a later version.

If you give up that easily, you won't enjoy PS much anyway. 

But I'm kidding, well, partly.

ATI cards are a bit finicky with PS. I found this:

In one sentence, it says that OpenGL does not work with the ATI switching technology. You have to turn it off and run the entire system on the Ati card.

Thank you for all your help. I read some articles and I think i have got the situation.

* I want PS to run on the dedicated GPU(AMD) not the integrated(Intel).
* The AMD CCC doesn't switch OpenGL apps to the dGPU when configured to do it.
* AMD doesn't use seperate drivers which can be updated independently.
* My Bios just allows to force "usage of the iGPU" or "switchable", but not dGPU :-(
* Because of the driver structure, disabling the Intel device makes the dGPU running without the AMD driver.
* Configure PS to use the Software renderer doesn't work at all.(The app doesn't start anymore)

This is a list of relevant facts I have collected from the articles.
Hm, at the moment I don't see a solution.

Would be create to have an option to define what card to use in the PS settings. :-)

Hello! i have been having this same problem. but I have no idea what to do, because i do not think it has anything to do with a video driver. if it does and that's the only case, then how do I run the game with another video driver?
I just installed the game by torrent. Is this the problem? and also, I updated the game.
