Problems with languages
« on: July 30, 2012, 11:17:43 am »
Sorry for my bad knowledge of English  :-[
I have a problem with the language choice. I changed it in options and in psclient.cfg , but English still remains in game and menu.
What should I do?

Welcome to the PlaneShift forum; your question is not bad or wrong, you seem to know English good enough. :)

Because this is an internationally played game, NPCs will still talk in english to you, as the players will do in "Main" chat.

The translation is only related to parts of the user interface, e.g. login field labels or mouse tooltips, but even the name of items won't be translated, because the game server will report these names out of a database which does not (yet?) contain translations for item names, and the server is not (yet?) told about your GUI language choice.

Thanks for help)
And in the near future are you planning to include full support for foreign languages or it isn't necessary to know English well to understand  quests' goals?

NPC quests are an optional, additional element, necessary only to get able to use game mechanic supported life elements (e.g. crafting tools).

The main objective is to play with other players. :)

But to allow all players worldwide to play a common game, they have to talk in a common language. Due to obvious relations of PCs (Silicon Valley) and PC games with the english language, the "Common language" in Yliakum is like english.

Don't be afraid. Your knowledge will be good enough, according to your previous questions. And practicing english in a roleplay is one of the best ways to learn it; many people confirmed this already.

Take your time to get to know the world. Listen to people talking. You will easily find an anchor to join.

Oh, and you'll also need to do NPC quests or lots of reading in-game books (which are also English) in order to learn how the world works, which is quite vital to be able to play with others.

Well either that, or make a character that had amnesia and forgot everything about the world they grew up in. Works every time.

It might be a good idea to find people who speak your native language inside the game. For example there is a big German speaking community but there are small number of players from a big variety of countries.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to create a list of players that will contain information about what languages do they speak so that people who do not speak English well find help more quickly.

I know this post is old, but I actually think this is a GREAT idea. Any plans on that?
