Hello,

it seems that you accidentally downloaded the Linux version of the game.
You need the windows version. Go to this site:
http://www.planeshift.it/download.html

And then scroll down until you find the "Windows binary" section. The "32 bit" version should work on any Windows computer. Make sure that the file you download has the extension ".exe".

The 64 bit version works fine on Windows 8 too  :D

If you have a 64-bit Windows, yes, it does. But if you are not sure which Windows you have (oh, there are many people who don't care about what they have), then the 32-bit version of PlaneShift will work on both.
