Recurring Events
« on: December 13, 2014, 10:00:56 am »
I'm revisiting this topic as I have some questions and interest on the subject.

First, What are the guidelines or requirements in order to get a recurring event scheduled yearly. I have worked with two in the past and am currently co-working on another. The two That I am looking at first are the Summer Festival and the Unidon Welcoming. Both of which I still have several notes and posts that can be worked with. What I need is an outline of what is required to make that work. I have this example of a RL/PS timescale to work with. Is this still current?

Unodin 1st April – 6th May

Byari 7th May – 12th June

Treman 13th June – 18th July

Kravaan 19th July – 23rd August

Quintahl 24th August – 28th September

Azhord 29th September – 4th November

Ylaaren 5th November – 10th December

Dwanden 11th December – 15th January

Novari 16th January – 21st Febuary

Yndoli 22st Febuary – 31th March

Given that to work with what is needed to make a recurring event possible?

Second, Is I am also interested in Player response in Recurring dates in which for them to schedule events in with an already established theme and/or backdrop in which to use for RP and to help outline their event to.

I hope that's up to date - and thanks for posting it. A Yliakum calendar with the concurrent real life dates is very handy!

So if one looks at the seasons in respect to the RL/PS event Chart they would fall as such:

First Season: 1st Unodin - 16th Treman               ( 1 April- 30 June )                           (Spring)
Unidon
Byari
Tremen

Second Season: 17th Treman - 32nd Quintahl      ( 1 July - 28 September )                  (Summer)
Treman
Kravaan
Quintahl

Third Season: 1st Azhord - 16th Dwanden           ( 29 September - 27 December)         (Fall)
Azord
Ylaaren
Dwanden

Forth Season: 17th Dwanden - 32nd Yndoli          ( 28 December - 31 March)                (Winter)
Dwanden
Novari
Yndoli

Breaking that down so that it can be used for planing ceremonies or events
first Season Observed             1 April
Second Season Observed        1 July
Third Season Observed           29 September
Forth Season Observed           28 December

For Ceremonies, Celebrations, and larger events
First Season        (First weekend of April)
Second Season    (First weekend of July)
Third Season       (Last weekend of September)
Forth Season       (Last Weekend of December)

Would this estimate seem Correct?

Sound good Jaycol ! And a nice idea to have presented this calendar here in such details ! Very handy  :D

On the main site (Settings overview page), I see that the seasons are refered to aswell with : birth, height, downfall and decay, which is linked to the vegetation growth.

I have been working on an outline that I can use to help me with the structuring of recurring events. Again this is something that I would like to see revitalized so that we have a handful of set dates in the yearly calendar in which events can be planned within an held on a regular basis.

There are two definitions that I use to describe material that I use
1) PS Settings - Those created by PS that set the overall general setting
2) Folklore - Which is player originated material that is based on the information provided by PS Settings.

Here is the outline that I made up based on the information provided by the PS Calendar. It is something that I will be using as a guideline to help plan events. I classify it as Folklore. It provides me enough information without straying to far from the content provided by PS settings. I hope some of you may find it useful as well. I am welcome to any input on it. It is however subject to change randomly or on a whim. There are several sources in-game yet that I need to find and research. I took the liberty of naming the Seasons as I found no other material related to them atm.

 "The Welcoming"
Named such as it falls on the First day Of Unidon The First day of the Ylakum Calendar Year. It marks the beginning of life throughout
the world and the beginning of the planting season. The season also marks the Great Coming when most of the peoples of Ylaikum had
journeyed to this world. The month of Byari is referenced as the New Beginning. It's beginning signifies the end of the planting season
and of the Great Coming. It is a time of celebration. Byari is filled with festivities both large and small throughout it's entirety.
The celebrations and celebrations often consisting of a well balanced blend of Social and Religious structure.

Months that fall within the First Season:
Unidon
Byari
Tremen

First Season -   1st Unodin - 16th Treman (1 April - 30 June)
- PS Holiday observed on 1 Unidon (1 April) as the First day of Unidon
- celebrated at the first weeks end in the month of Unidon (First Weekend of April)

First Season festivities

- celebrated at the first weeks end in the month of Unidon (First Weekend of April)
" The Great Coming"

"The Awakening"
Named such as it falls deep within the month of Treman. Following the Great Coming the many different peoples realizing the dangers
that their new world presented came together placing their differences aside. They unified their many differences out of the need of
survival. By doing so insured they could persevere as one people in this strange new world. Their determination became the building
blocks of the Traditions we follow today. The Second season brings in the height of the growing season. With the crops planted and
tended. The many peoples of Yliakum become more diverse in the pursuit of more interesting activities. As nature takes it's course
within the fields and surrounding wilderness. Festivities become common place as an excuse for entertainment and to enhance commerce
in and around the many cities and settlements. Traveling is frequent along the roads between the major population centers. Merchants
and pilgrims fill the roads in search of material or spiritual enlightenment. Many others may join them seeking adventure or simply a
better way of life.

Months that fall within the Second Season:
Treman
Kravaan
Quintahl

Second Season -  17th Treman - 32nd Quintahl  (1 July - 28 September)
- PS Holiday observed on 17 Treman (1 July)

Second Season Festivities
Quintahl (summer) Festival
- Celebrated on the last weeks end in Quintahl (Last weekend of September)

"The Gathering"
Named such as it begins with the month of Azord.  It is the Harvesting season. Azord brings first of the seasons crops. The month of
Ylaaren brings in the harvest. Across most of Yliakum the seasons crops are gathered and stored for the Frostfall. Azord also brings
with it the the realization and the dangers that come with the approaching Frostfall. As many work to prepare others reflect on the
experiences of the past to ensure the security of their future. Sooth Sayers, fortune tellers, Seers, oracles and doom sayers are
often sought after for conformation, reassurance, and security. The season grows colder as it advances in Frostfall. Festivities cease
and preparations begin in readiness for the coming of the long cold season. Activities become more localized as the sense of community
becomes more apparent. Communities strength increases with sudden growth as they fill with travelers and settlers seeking suitable
residence against the coming Frostfall.

"The Forging"
Named such as it falls deep within the month of Dwanden. The harsh climate of the Frostfall takes its toll on those that are ill
prepared. For those that are find themselves may find themselves struggling to endure as well. It is a time when the those with craft
skills close their doors against the weather and practice to perfect their trade. It is a time when the hammers ring across the land
making use of the materials needed to bring much coveted heat. It is during the middle of this month that the season changes. The
reference to forging is not limited to the great crafts. There is also the need to strengthen the communities and to see to the needs
of those that suffer most. When the generosity of Talad is recolonized by all in some form. Once a gesture of charity from one
community to another of stores necessary to survive the long Frostfall. As time passed that need diminished as settlements become more
self-sufficient with the exception of extreme circumstances. The sharing of stores during the hard months slowly generated in time into
a casual sharing of one's prosperity. The simple act of charity and well being becoming popular among the inhabitants of Ylaikum to
usher in the beginning of the Forth Season.

Months that fall within the Forth Season:
Dwanden
Novari
Yndoli

Forth Season -   17th Dwanden - 32nd Yndoli    (28 December - 31 March)
