Talad, thank you for your quick response. It has helped me clarify two things about my wish list wish.
First, thanks for this:
You can easily remove the button yourself, edit planeshift\trunk\data\gui\interact.xml
and remove this part:
<widget name="ButtonMarriage" factory="pawsButton" id="1900" tooltip="Marry">
<frame x="128" y="64" width="64" height="64" />
<bgimage resource="ButtonMarriage" />
</widget>
You can do the same with other buttons if you want, you can also change the position and order."
Be sure to backup the file before making changes in case you edit it wrongly.
Enjoy!
It's great to know that removing the button is relatively easy to do. So the obstacle is not a coding impossibility.
Second, it points out my reason to ask for the button itself to be removed from the entire game mechanics , which I should have more clearly stated. The reason is not for an individual option: that for individual players has always existed- don't use it if you don't want to. It is not a question of having the "right" but choosing not to use that right.
The reason behind my wish is that this particular universal coding, which is OOC, excludes some avatars ICly. Some character/citizens do not have the same "rights" as others.
Those who wish to use the right to marriage ICly who happen to play same-sex couples are excluded by the OOC coding. Those female characters who wish ICly not to be automatically re-named with the male "husband" character's last name, as if they were property, are forced to by the OOC coding system. ICly, kran are excluded from marriage entirely by the OOC coding, as if marriage were a relationship based solely on the ability to reproduce via zygotes rather than free-will partnership.
I believe the mechanics cast a forced exclusion of certain types of characters to the detriment of character immersion and IC role play. So it seems to me that either the button should entitle all characters ig to marry at will, or none to marry through the use of a mechanics button rather than IC rp.
Thanks for letting me clarify the reason I (and others) wish this feature to be removed from the entire game.
Sincerely,
RR
