camps
« on: July 19, 2003, 07:44:30 pm »
Maybe someone posted this but i dont know if there ever is a option to where we can explore and walk to other towns and all that good stuff there should be camps of bandits and bards along the road just a small addon that wouldnt be very hard to add and you could be able to get something good from the camp leader and of course there would be camps of normal npc adventurers. Maybe its a lame idea but i like these little details.

There will probably be little camps. And there will be many cities, not just the one that you can go in right now. :)
Browsing the forums when I\'m bored, nothing more.

yeah, then maybe \"Planeshift\" could be renamed \"everquest\".

to create a camp would require
  • models
  • textures
  • animations
  • sound effects
  • and scripts or AI for the NPC\'s
If it\'s not very hard to add, then maybe you should do it.

Naaah, be more interesting if players can set up camps and you come across those!

I think you\'ll need help with your EQ-problem Abemore ;)

it\'s not as big as you think it is.
When you\'ve created a model it\'s pretty easy to create new models based on the older ones. Take an Ylian model, add some scars, put a robe on him and a knife in his hand, and you have a bandit.
Animations shouldn\'t be too hard to do either, and about sound effects, you\'ll just add phrases like \"Gimme your money\", and \"You can\'t escape\" etc.
I cant comment the scripting since I know nothing about it... :P

I think that should be another job for the players of planeshift.

Think about it, with npcs, you cannot argue your way through, (speaking from everquest experience), if they are hostile, they will attack you no matter what, or the opposite.

while players, (by the way, there could be guilds that can take up these roles), could have certain rules about who may pass, and also it would be easier to negotiate with players.

for example if they see that the person who is passing is packing maad expensive gear, they will stop and rob that person.  but if the person is poor and not wearing anything, they will hep him, maybe give me a beer.

actually now that I think about it, if the npcs could be programmed like that or even better, it would be much cooler.

So you mean Robin Hood NPC characters... well I don\'t really want to say anymore coz\' given the current NPC interaction system, anything involving NPCs is evil.  Power to the people!

Yeah :), I was thinking that as well,

but you know, different bandit groups have different views. some are evil, some are good, some hate the rich, some hate the race, some are hippies.

It would also be pretty neat if bandit groups are a big of a nuasanse to everyone, that it would be possible to gather a lot of people and attack their camp, wiping them out from the game. so this is kinda dynamic idea, as the old bandit groups get eliminated, new ones appear. it would be up to devs to make new bandits and put them in different areas.

There is only one problem with the playerbandit-system.
There is no PvP, so there\'s no stealing (if I\'ve understood it right)

EQ problem - hehe I think thats why we are all here - but nonetheless I like the idea of having camps of bandits just from a leveling perspective as a mid level monster/npc to fight - you should submit the \'backroads thief\' idea to the monsters thread
