Memory leak
« on: September 17, 2003, 11:13:44 pm »
I whas wandering on the gentoo forum and I stumbled on crystal-space and then on planeshift. I love mmorpg and I though this game would be(come) great I emerged the game.
When I started playing I made an character and after some time my computer froze and I had to kill ps. Than I started it up again and choose my character a litle bit quicker ;). That work! yeay. But than I started playing. I did that for 2 minutes and than the game got \"laggy\"  and my computer froze again.
After some restarting I decided to enable gkrealm2 to check for cpu performance. But what I found whas that my mem whas full because of running ps. So I guess ps has an memory leak (at least in the linux/gentoo version).

Hope this will be removed soon so I can do some extensive testing and playing (Y).

Because PS is only in pre-alpha development at the moment there will be a lot of these \"memory leaks\" in the game. Hopefully with the release of CB some of the leaks will be repaired and the lag will be reduced but untill then were all stuck with the lag and crashing.
I have returned!!

I found a part of the problem gmkrealm whas sonice to point out that I used 0mb of my 0mb of swap space (swap space whasn\'t formatted so couldn\'t be used. Afterter formatting and mounting my swap space it worked lik a charm! (Well sometimes I only have 16fps but this is still pre-alpha)

Still there is something \"wrong\" with the code cause mem is expanding first rapidly and then slowly.
When I load the map my mem usage increases by 400 mb!

Any ways sorry for this noobish topic. It whas just that I removed xp and had to repartition my hd to use my space efficently.

Btw. I start thinking this game is (to) adictive :)
