New Newbie here. HELLO ALL
« on: September 23, 2003, 11:29:52 pm »
OK...Am new to planetshift... Am coming here from 4 years of EVERQUEST... So I hope x-eq players are welcome among the fold.
Will be downloading PS tonite,  be assured.

Just wanted to introduce myself, and hear some tips if any...cause all tips are welcome.

I used to play FIZBUZ a level 54 Gnome Enchanter. GM  Tinkerer, plus GM in several other trades... Fizbuz was a great Avatar to roleplay with.

Where can i read about the races and classes in PS? I hope PS has Gnomes.

Anyways....just want to say \"HI\"

Welcome to PS, Fizbuz.

Yes, ex-EQ players are welcomed here, as long as they atone for their sin. ;)  EQ is exactly what most people here want PS not to be.  I played EQ myself (as a gnomeish wizard, no less; \"GNO MERCY!\" ) for 2 years, up to about 1 1/2 years ago.

As for the races, the player\'s guide goes into great detail; but not all of the races have been implemented yet.  You see, it may not be clear to you, but PS is currently in a pre-alpha tech demo state.  Unfortunatly, there are no gnomes though, but there are dwarves.

Welcome Fizbuz :)

Hope you\'re able to download the demo with no problems. If you do encounter any, though, it\'ll take you less than five minutes to scan down the list of threads and find the answers you need.

Incase you\'re not quite sure to expect in the PlaneShift world, here\'s what you can do untill the next release (codename: Crystal Blue, due in December/January) :

  • There is one town and one dungeon to explore.
  • There is no combat and no monsters/mobs to fight.
  • You can chat.
  • Crystals spawn randomly all over the world. Collect them, save up, and click here to visit the webmerchant.
  • You can\'t open doors.
  • You can\'t crouch.
  • There are 2 NPC quests to complete. However, no longer are any rewards given for completing them, and I\'d say they\'re too much hassle to bother with anyway.
  • No skills or stats apply in this version. Nor can you do any jobs.

No, there is not any gnomes!  ;(  ;(

I made a post asking why there was no gnomes or any other playable character of their type (since the PS races are way too alike in my opinion) and they said they were trying to stay away from the regular RPG thing!  Suprising since they have every other normal fantasy races...but none for us gnomish types!

*grumbles some more*

Well then, New Newbie ---:D---

You heard it, no gnomes at all... planeshift is a pre-alpha tech demo, and for that it will be slow sometimes, have lots of lag, and aint finished at all aye? But it\'s worth it. You can be part of the community here, much people are waiting for the next release, and I hope that you have the patience to wait too :D There are too many people that run away when they see it\'s not a fully operational version yet...Be patient :D:D

Well stonebreakers are kinda like gnomes... They are shorter than \"regular\" dwarves and aren\'t bad at spell casting...

Gnomes are not like any dwarves!  It\'s not just the size it\'s the whole personality thing, dwarves are like the opposite personality of a gnomish race.

I agree with Kiern here, Dwarves are far more \"rough\" then gnomes. Gnomes are more the sophisticated inventors, while dwarves work with stones and metals, the more rough arts.

...or that\'s how I think about it :D

Yeah Izzy, thats what I was thinking and also they would be more relaxed and not as serious as the other races seem to be by their description.

I mean, they don\'t have to be \"gnomes\" but they basically have every type of person, or whatever you want to call it, except what we just described.

I looked up gnome in the dicitonay. Apparantly gnomes are dwarves that live underground. However, Tolkien dwarves are just like classic gnomes, and everyone uses Tolkien dwarves, because their the coolest. So somebody had to think up something else for gnomes to be, I guess.
Still, I have no idea what the classic gnome\'s personality would be like, the dictionary didn\'t say :). It did define gnomes as dwarves though.
But what I really wan\'t to say (or ask) is: Why does everyone in the Cabal use the same forum sig?
