Catastrophes
« on: September 25, 2003, 06:04:49 pm »
So what about catastrophes ... I know that those are hard to handle as events but it would be nice that there would be big events like orc invasions and other stuff like that ... or maybe mines could run out of ore or something like that.

Ideas ??

Then I\'d prefer more different catastrophes.
1. monsters (the most common one)
2. collapse (unless I\'m confused, I thought there will be (eventually) 7 ground levels in PS (the current city being the lowest). How about pieces falling down, causing people to get stuck, buildings to be damaged (and everyone has to solve the mess).
3. Disease... Not sure about this one, but maybe diseases can occur, and be contagious.

hmm ... what about one huge monster like Dragon or Magic eater (Doubles spell cost) attacking the city for some reason. Or maybe there could be money catastrophe. Or maybe an important npc could be assasinated ?

All great ideas :D
Or how about you can become a real \'citizen\' in a city...

And suddenly 2 cities decide to go at war against each other  :D

Yeah ... and maybe meteorite could destroy whole planet ... just a joke...

That city vs city is nice idea. Lets think about it.

City1 (Tasburg) vs City2 (Benomallon)

1.Cause ?
2.Why is it needed ?
3.How does it aid winners ?
4.After war ?

City1 (Tasburg) vs City2 (Benomallon)

1.Cause ?
- One of the cities has had a bad harvest, and the city is running out of food (this would also result in shop-prices of food going up, maybe even tripling). The other city has just enough food to survive, so doesn\'t want to share it. Else, they won\'t have food either.

-One of the cities worships one god, the other one another god. In both cities are oracles... One oracle  suddenly tells the city council that the gods are at war. At first, they won\'t buy it... Then, some \'sign\' appears (like in the Middle Ages: a comet).  So they decide to attack the other city.

-Of course, there are MANY other possibilites (anyone else got any?)
2.Why is it needed ?
-To get food!

-To be in favor of the gods (very religious people ;))

3.How does it aid winners ?
-Food prices drop; and of course they get lots of loot.

-Some kind of godly presents (like an item; or perhaps the next 5 hours of playing time, you have more strenght? Or you level up?)
4.After war ?
-Diplomacy should begin to work.
-Temporary new quests (lots of \'messenger\' quests with diplomatic messages).
-If a city fights for its god, and wins, the other city will then also worship that god.

Presumably during a war citizens of both cities would be pk\'able during the war? That would mean you had to earn citizenship then, so that newbies couldn\'t get caught up in the fighting. Also, there would have to be pc/npc commanders who would decide when to surrender. I really like this idea, because monster killing gets boring after a while.

lol, sounds good to me.  :D
Something like this would happen maybe 2-4 times a year? Would be very fun to do.

If it was going to happen that infrequently it would have to last a fortnight or so each time, so you wouldnt miss out. That would be VERY fun indeed.

Events like these would be something that the developers might enjoy creating once the game is complete and in full swing. Its not the sort of thing you would start planning until then.

But yeah, these sorts of things would add a real variation to the game and be highly enjoyable... even though they\'ll be a good 5 years away.

In a scifi MUD I used to play, there was a major event every year; usually as an alien attack.  It worked well to bond the players, due to the extreme difficulty of the attacks.

I\'d love to see major events, maybe even global ones, like the aforementioned alien attack.  Although, a major event would take alot of work on the devs end, and could likely only be used once; so its quite impractical to do very many, if at all.

Things like a \'shortage\' or something similar would be a great way to bring together players, and also to add a story element to the game that all the players can relate to.

Examples: The crystal has given out for an unusually long period of time and strange beasts have begun roaming the land...hunting us...

Things like this are more or less in between the feild of totally affecting the entire populus and maybe a single group the most. Although it should not be biased, story elements, like real life, and in society as well must, at times single out specific races, or people.

Maybe I am overdoing it again...=P
