An interesting alternative to mining

Okay it\'s so boring when we always use some sort of metal tool to mine metals or something other precious stone or jewels. Here\'s my idea:

What if you can collect materials from rain. Okay here me out. When it rains technically everything gets moist and such...therefore when it rains it also rains little foreign particles in this case it will be minerals and ores in very very trace amounts but over time they will build up. So here\'s I believe how it can be done.

Okay I\'m too tired to mine right now so I get an item called a \"rain collector.\" You use this rain collector only when it rains and when it does it filters all the water and leaves the bigger chunks of stuff just like a spaghetti drainer. See this way I can get a little of everything (maybe) but also I might happen by chance to pick up some some rare materials. So I come and check what I have and I find out that I now have some mineral/ore dust. I can save this dust and use it for whatever reason...

Good...? Bad...? I just thought it\'d be an interesting alternative for those who don\'t like to mine.

Have you never been in the game or read the settings, Magerunner? Rain in PS has been explained many times before, my friend.


Kuiper, I\'m not really sure what to make of the idea. It certainly sounds original, but unless rain in Yliakum is quite different to that on Earth, it seems implausable. For if it were, we\'d be doing it in the real world already.

Also, the quantities of foreign particles found would be miniscule, and thus it would be difficult to make much use or profit from this process.

Perhaps, however, you could exchange this for a sort of \'solar power\' collector? Instead of rain, the tools would collect energy from the Azure Sun and used in a variety of ways (I\'m thinking wizards who need some raw power for their magics, or to heat water tanks, or to operate some city systems).


Just a few random thoughts.

wait wait I got an idea, what if there was a small orb and it collects energy directly from the Azure Sun. The orb is white but as it collects more energy it becomes red. When it is fully charged you can extract energy directly from it to regenerate MP instead of getting MP potions or just using any other potions and stuff.

anywho that sun idea sounds cool, couldnt that be used to make explosives?. I like explosives, wouldent it be cool to make an exploding arrow head from said energy... though it may be a bit unbalanced as putting it on the tip of your sword would be like a kamakazi

this may sound patronising (sorry in advance) but were i come from we have this thing called fire thats easy cheap and great at heating water. *cowers*

Rain is naturaly distilled water, so there are no  minerals in it.
 BUT if water was driping throwe rock and off the cave roof it would have minalres in it. How do u think stlagtites are formed?
So if PS \"rain\" is water dripping form the rock roof it could work i guese.
But in reallity the ppm of minarals would be quite small.   ppm (parts per million).
 it can take 1000\'s or more years for a stlagtite to form and growe.

Sounds nifty to me. I like the magic collector as well. I like anyhting that collects stuff. Good idea.

Once again I would like to remind everyone that this is a fantasy world and there is no real need to make sence of everyting that we want to see.
I do have to agree that the plausability of the \'rain\' driven ore collector would not work properly in real life, but with a little, carefull thought I\'m sure that the developers could figure a way to work it into the story line.
The magic collector though: If there were pockets of magical energy in various locations of the world (most of those deposits needing to be found) than you could have collectors for all the forms of energy -that is, assuming that each Way uses a nother section of magical energy and not that they siply redirect the \'way\' in which a singular form works.
Specifically you could have \'healing orbs\' or \'healing crystals\' that were huge forms of the collection orb which eninated (by the placement of glyphs) non-injurious magical energy. Hell, you could even have the creation of such objects as a player (group) ability, with a decay time for all player created ones (which would be expensive) and an infinate lifespan for ones placed by the developers.

Here is a way to explain mana regeneration:
You can absorb energy from the azure sun, if you are in a shady spot you do not regenerate mana as fast, maybe underground there are mushrooms that release azure sun mana or something like that. That way most of the mages will be outside getting sunburns all the time. But what about the dark way? Maybe dark way gets mana through shadows or something?
