Smithing Cheap?
« on: March 29, 2004, 11:49:47 pm »
I think that there should be 2 ways of smithing:
1. Pay Smith lots of money, Smith provides his own materials.
2. Bring in own items, and only pay for Smiths time.
This way, when a non-smither finds iron ores, and gold, and wants to make his sword, he can do it with a minimum cost because he already has the items. But, if the player wants a sword, but doesn\'t have theneeded items, the player can still get the sword, but he has to pay alot more. What are your thoughts on this?

Well, you can\'t really \"force\" people to use one of those ways.  How smithing is handled is pretty much up to the players to decide.  It wouldn\'t be very practical to make someone use one of those ways, would it?

Well this really all depends on the smith that you deal with.  It would make sense for them to give you a discount if you had your own materials, as they would not have to incur that cost.
But I suppose if the smith really wanted to, they could just refuse to use your materials and always charge the same price (although I wouldn\'t really see the point in this :D)

But like Halvord said, its not really something that could be regulated as it will be strictly player driven.

I meant that you had these 2 options, you wouldn\'t be forced to do one, you can do both, also if you only have half of the needed materials, then you can still pay for the other half.

The smithing will be done on a person to person basis, therfour there is no set method to it. it\'s all what you and the smith decide on. it will depend on you and the smith not the set up of the game.

idd... if the smith is in a good mood, you will have to pay less, or not:P but since all smithers will be players in PS, there wont be any formula or so.. it is up to that smith u r asking what the price will be.

there will probably be a large number of smiths around when CB comes out so i think there will always be a bit of competitiveness with prices to keep them reasonable.
