New weapon, The @rb:
« on: May 10, 2004, 03:58:26 pm »
What about Orbs being used to focused the energy of a magic user, that is, as a weapon in combat. You could hold a small orb in your hand & the power would surge through it being amplified & focused on your target, instead of a staff/wand for example.

We can have different types of Orbs, Glass, Crystal, Ruby, etc? & They could also amplify certain abilities & decrease others like:

You find an Orb of the Ocean, & try to use a red way attack with it, & psstts you get a small steamy flame, basically not much, but you try a Blue way attack & the water gushes forth 10x as much as usual.

We can also have different sizes, like a 2-handed orb for example would be a higher level orb, also you can combine a 1-handed staff with a small orb?

The textures could be really cool!

What do you think?

yeah, sounds good.
As a wizard you usually dont use melee combat weapons, so if there would be \"upgrades\" for wizards to help their spells it would be cool.

Indeed. Perhaps a mage could even summon an orb to use for a small while. I hope the devs implement this (although I don\'t think it would be in CB).

Cam this \"orb\" also be a ranged weapon?
My name is NOT pronounced, \"Kway-per,\" it\'s pronounced \"Kye-per.\"

Wouldnt be very smart, would it? Throwing away your orb, coz if you would throw it away you would also throw your extra abilitie for the orb away.

A good idea, like to see that in CB :)

Maybe the Orb will eventually run out of energy to help the user, so then you can just throw it away as it is useless now.

Or pay for a mage NPC to recharge it. It\'ll cost alot, but less than actually buying a new one.

And a powerfull mage might be able to recharge it himself only at a very slow rate.

Should it be possible to combine orbs, or should orbs remain independent on not be fused together?

And of course, I assume that orbs will be created, and not just exist in random areas.

This reminds me of the angreal of the WoT series. Each channeler, when drawing through one of these, can hold more of the Power (similar to mana, but not quite). Orbs apparently just enhance combat casting, but should they also enhance spells casted for \'civil affairs?\'
You pay the same price for doing something halfway as for doing it completely. So you might as well do it completely.

hmm... just went to the ps site. This another one of those \"already tought about ideas\"
They aren\'t called orbs, but glyphs, and in these glyphs magical power is being held. Go read:P

My understanding of glyphs was that you need one to cast a spell,
This would enhance a spell being cast?
