OK...here is my idea. I was reading this thread

Than he says that you should then be able to take those items and reuse them (his example, melt the unusable short sword to reforgable iron, and have a friend reuse the leather as boots). Now that got me thinking that people wold then be able to go around killing rogues, for example, so the leather, for example, can be reused to make boots. And this way a person could have like 30 pairs of boots.
My idea is that there would be a section in the main city (i can never remember the name of it!) which would have a lot of stalls in it. A player could than rent a stall (for a price of course) from an Computer player for the duration he would be willing to stay there (th moment he leaves, the stall opens up). The player would also be able to have a sign on his/her stall that says what the stall is selling. So now, older players who can make like 30 boots and rent the stall can sell it to younger players for cheaper, and own the store.
Sadly, I used to play neopets, which I know hate, but the best, most fun, part about heopets, was the fact that I could own a store and sell things to other players. So with a system like that, people could own a buisness (for the duration they stand there because there are a limited amount of spots).
Also, my idea of an ideal MMORPG is to have it almost completly run by the players. So instead of being able to buy from the computer players, you have to buy and sell with real people. And with that in mind I can even see it going further. Younger players can get the leather for the boots, for example, and sell it to the stall-holders, who will make the boots, and sell them.
Now, i realise that this is way too complicated at times, and would probably be very difficult to accomplish, but I think that there should be a way of selling your stuff to other players in a way less complicated than an auction. These are just my ideas written down quickly.
