The Time of Day
« on: August 19, 2004, 03:45:25 am »
I just noticed an ability to figure out the \'general\' time of day in CB. It\'d be interesting to base the accuracy this ability on some existing \'perceptive\' (int?) stat.

Your character has been living in Yliakum for several years, which means your character is very likely to be able to tell when it gets dark and how long nights last. You don\'t know these things, and the clock is there to help you understand how long days last. Intelligence may be required, but it\'s your intelligence, not your character\'s.

Where to begin answering that question? 8o

It could tie in with quests. Certain NPCs may be at certain locations at certain times of the day. Hunters might need to have an accurate perception of when it is Dusk or Dawn in order to find certain animals. Travellers need to be in town safe before nightfall and thus may need to plan their journeys before they go out and risk being ambushed by bandits. You may be able to regen faster during the nighttime when sleeping. You may simply be curious as to what time it is. You may need to know how many hours there are left before it turns night; or how many left untill day breaks.

Need I go on? It\'s almost a necessity.

lol yeah tnx.. ;) but i ment was..why would u need a stat. or skill to be able to see what time it is..that\'s what i ment.  ofcourse its obvious that a clock is a necesity in a game..but having a skill so that u can say what time it is mor exactly or something..useless

This was added for \'engine\' reasons and not gameplay reasons.  For example, when playing music it picks a different track based on the \'General\' time.  So for example, MORNING will have a different track then EVENING.   It can be tied in to other things as well such as quests being only offered in certain \'time\' regions.
