hey thats what I said :D if ur rich u can showoff with the greatness of ur castle but its also functional its a better defence and harder to destroy by your enemies.

Not sure on whats posible to code but..

But couldent you just add slabs on land around and each player have the option to build one house? Could it be posible to just Build a REAL big emty Void of land outside the city that can be built on untill its full (Than maby Players will have to fight over land if they want to build on it.

Just set up Blocks and paths than have Differant Sized lots to sell. And to keep it from getting repetative with just house over house, add a few NPC things around. add Markets stadiams that sort of thing.

i dont think that first amount of people got houses because just looking at that it might discouradge other people from joining so i think every one should get a house but there\'s a npc to tele to a sechon of houses in stead of them being in town other wise a new char will get lost in the city and not in the woods (be pretty funny tho)so i think the house idea is good im against the stealing but if you nik summit from me trust me im getting it bak :] .

I both like and not like Necros idea...
Its a very good way of saving space but as said before half the joy is taken away.
I want a house where maybe I can look out the window and see some ppl trading on the market bellow.
I think ppl should be able to build houses togheter.
Like a house with 3 floors each owned by different players(or 1 player). I dont think big apartment houses would be cool at all but the idea is good.
The would be houses with MAX 5 floors and then the ablility to have from 1-5 owners that each has customized their floors.
Also balconys would be very cool.
Maybe this is too much for the engine I dont know..
I only know I would LOVE it.
It shouldnt be too hard to first have an amount of building lots and when it gets ful you could expand the world slowly and let more and more build.
This is a thing I REALLY wanna see in the game so plz, Devs..
Come up on some idea where you wont take the joy out of owning a house but still makes it easy done and handled.

i think the first 300 people get a free small block of land.
you make the house in 3DSMAX or something (thatd be cool) and then you just upload it to your web hsoting account if youve got one and then just give the staff the link and thyell download it. Or if your e-mail allows a big enough file size you just send em to them.
Cause its FREE (no planeshift money) you get a limited number of uploads, so you can only change your house once every 2 months or something like, plus the land is small (slightly bigger than that thing in the middile of the level) and you get 2 levels to build on.

OFCOURSE my idea is way too compliacted to be implemented, so we can jiust forget about it  :D

I am almost sure the filal release will enable fast computers with T3 connections or so to serve the world, and I think the problem is not houses, but just the bulk of moving people on the client. Crystalspace would have a lot of sprites to calculate wheather to render or not, I am not sure about how crystalspace works though. The server is downloadable in source from CVS if you can figure out how to compile it, and I can\'t even figure out the client (:

Whats the purpose of a house except to keep stuff in? I don\'t need no house heh. Just a sleeping bag and sky over my head .. and endless paths to wander.

But then again, I\'m a bedouin. Not everyone is.

Oh, a house could be used to keep the wives and concubines in ... hmm and all the kids. What when they each decide they want their own houses since you know how they can get under each others skin. I\'m thinking that would cost a LOT of whatever currency we\'re gonna be using. You see the problems houses can cause. Who needs em?

To clear up some things:

Guilds will be able to buy guild houses.  Haven\'t heard any word on keeps/castles and sieges etc... But I\'ll bring it up with Talad the next time I catch him in IRC.

We were throwing around the Idea of player housing.  But for the life of me I can\'t remember if we came to a conclusion or not.  But I get the feeling, probably not.

There will be banks and they will not be able to be broken into.  (The last I heard anyway)  No interest as far as I know.

I think stealing from houses should be possible, just as having defenses, traps and stuff. Maybe even NPC-guards.
