why is the server ping always so damn high?

It\'s not always so high. Somtimes it\'s around 550:D.
Besides the game isn\'t acting buggy when in high ping (because of the nature of the game) so I don\'t see it as such a big problem.
Only linkdead is a problem for me :D

BTW could it be that the server is down? And if yes when is it supposed do be up again?

It goes down frequently and only lasts a few min. at a time. The devs are probably fixing bugs during those few seconds. Don\'t worry, its going to be rough the first few days.
