Npc For rent...
« on: August 01, 2002, 12:11:25 am »
First off i would like to apologize for my month away from the boards i was on vacation... ugg thie light of the outside world dosent heal like my computers radiation...

anyway i thought of something... The ablility to hire and train an npc to do certin jobs for you like for instance while your horse isn in a stable you could hire and \"train\" and npc to take care of your horse in a certin manner or you could hire an npc missionary to get certin items for you... of course this would not be used to get quest items but you could hire the npc and give it money to go get you a new sword if you are in a dungeon and yours breaks of course you would have to hire the npc in advaced and he or she would follow you into the dungeon and if your sword breaks you could send them to get another while you camp out and heal

I believe we WILL have the capacity to have NPC assistants for certain functions, such as guards or mercenaries, but they have not been finalized at all yet.  Keep generating ideas about how you might use NPC assistants and maybe we can implement some of them.  :-)

The most obvious and most useful thing would probably be a shopkeeper. But, having a bunch of NPCs mining and bringing back ore and stuff over and over again.. would be.. kinda cheating, I suppose.. because powerful players would like.. get hundreds of NPCs and stuff.. or is that good? I dunno.. but there are alot of exploiters out there

To Vengeance: Why Guards if there will not be allowed Free-PKing?
I though that guards would be a great idea, but only if to protect your house or something....but I still find it useless, unless people can open locks of your house and steal things (which would be very interesting =D)

i agree with elentor. guards dont seem to have much of a point if there will not be PKing, unless they are there to help in a guild war or to fend off monsters.

Like D2 Mercenaries?
I disagree completely.

First Reason: The polygon count would enourmously raise in a hi-crowded area, full of guards.
Second: People should kill the monsters by themself.

An idea I had is, i.e., someone important contract a group to make a quest in dungeon X and get back the treasure Y. Then he should send a guard to go with the group.

never once did i say that your npc would kill for you like d2... i mearly ment as a sort of personal assistant yes in my case i want the character to protect there npc and then the npc if it is still living can go back to town and get supplies while you make camp in the dungon to heal your wounds and after a fair amount of elapsed time(say a few minutes... this is for a time saver) the npc would return with the supplies and yet again you can return to the task at hand also the assistant would not stay with oy uat all times like in towns and such but could be found at a designated area like a training ground or something  in witch you would walk in and ask your npc(previously hired) for help and they would follow you in dungeons and such not to towns... (no the npc will not actualy walk into a town to get the supplies it will mearly dissapear and reapear with the supplies)
