Why Is it so slow???
« on: January 12, 2005, 04:19:55 am »
I was awaiting the download for this game, I spent hours updating it and when I began to play the game ran very slowly and skipped animations and it should have been running smoothly, why!?

The download servers aren\'t the fastest, the game is still in development and hasn\'t been totally optimised.

What do you mean by \"should have been running smoothly\" ? How do you know that?

I think that it can be useful to know how many FPS are you getting.
I got this \"slowness\" problem too, and I think it depends from my graphic card (not that my graphic card is bad, but from its brand).

I run PS on windows XP with a Radeon 9600 and I have a cable connection 8mbit.
I get 1.0 FPS as average.

Ary
PS: u can check FPS in the bottom of the info window

i cant run the game smoothly too! actually, i doubt if i can call what happened to me as \"running the game\".

i got past all the downloads and updates then character creation. then the world loaded for about 5 mins. and after that everytime i move for about 3 seconds it freezes, then after a few seconds, it moves again. it just repeats that so basically i cant do anything!!!

cmon there has to be some way to speed up the game? i set the resolution to 800x600 already. 16 bit with software audio.

im running a Celeron 2.4 with Geforce FX 5200. 56k (wow!) modem net connection :D.

is this because of the 56k modem? i dont think so but what the hell? i can run 3d games smoothly. even those new games with the pixel shading requirements and all :D

This is a tech demo, not a full polished game. Slowness is expected.

The possible suggestions could be to try to see if after an update of the graphic card drivers something improves.

I have solved my problem basically like that.
Btw, how MUCH slow is it? I think that the number of FPS is important to discriminate serious problems from just great expectations :-)

I think it\'s quite funny that in this thread there is 4-5 people that reports this slowness, but only 2 have posted \"system specs\" if you can call it that.

You guys left the most critical part out, your frikken RAM, you know memory?
Not having enough memory in this early stage of ANY game is a matter of life and death

Androgos has a point. Any graphic intense game these games (just about all games) need lots of RAM. At least 512 mB but a gB is better. Also PS is in alpha and so is not optimized, developers are more focused on stability at this point.

I have 512MB ram and things that improved my speed dramatically:

1. turn off all sound [pre-launch game settings]
2. reduce the view distance [in game settings]  (this setting result that you don\'t see very far)

3. get out of the plaza square :P
4. for some reason looking down and avoiding looking across large open areas with lots of players in it improved speed too. [i.e. looking down or running close to walls instead of looking at the big red temple with the nice background].

5. game runs great outside the main town [i assume due to the lack of objects]. Basically the plaza and the path up to the north gate is low-FPS-hell for me :P

anyway it\'s things that helped me, not sure why and whether it\'ll helped anyone else. But i\'d suggest playing around with some of the settings, espcially view distance and some of the
texture-quality type of settings.

1. Well I want to hear the birds how they singing.

2. Well I want to see my enemies as sooner as possible. No really normally people want to see far as they would see in real life. This is why people wear Eyeglases. o.O

3. No way. Each time I escape from the hell I get automatically there.

4. :-)

5. Yeah Ojaveda city runs better.
