Weather, Place and Day/Night Cycles effects on Magic
« on: January 21, 2005, 04:37:29 am »
I have an idea:

What if Magic spell effects would be more or less efficient depend of the day/night, place and weather?

ex)

Crystal way: better during day, bad when it\'s night

Dark: better during night, bad when it\'s day

Blue way: better when it\'s snowy, rainy or cold outside, bad when it\'s hot and dry

Red way: better when it\'s hot and dry, bad when it\'s snowy, rainy or cold

Azure way: better when the character is in the exterior world (azure way is air-oriented....), bad in interior places

Brown way: better when the character is in dungeon, caves or any other interior environments, bad in exterior world.

That dont mean light spell would be useless during day, for exemple, that just mean that it would be less efficient (let\'s say -50%) or it could cost more manas or both.  This way, it would add very much to the mage characters\' strategies!  We would see mainly dark mage at night in action :D

This idea could be apply to the monster too.  Some monster could be stronger depending of those factors.

I forgot:

an exemple for monsters:

a fire elemental would be weaker when exposes to heat; Shadows, ghosts would be weaker during day but stronger during night :)

Thats a good idea, it might be doable from a programmer point of view, and it might add a new dimension for spellcasters. It might not be very difficult to implement, if spells are programmed properly, so that you can alter their effect by %. Some spells might be completely useless in a bad environment (like lighting bolt in cave), and some would be less effective. About fire elementals : They are hot ! They like heat ! They should be weaker when it\'s cold, and they might die because of rain.

The world of Planeshift is an underground world, so I can\'t think of weather in it. But perhaps something can be found that could influence the magic instead of weather.

Yeah and know something:

there is water in Planeshift? There can be weather:  heat causes evaporation causes cloud formation causes rain causes water.

Because every region in Planeshift does not receive the same light/heat quantity, it can cause different vegetation/environment/weather i mean snow, fog to desert...

So there can be weather :)  and my system could world!
