Opening Petition window causes server to go Linkdead
« on: February 01, 2005, 08:12:16 am »
Is it just me, or does the server go linkdead every time i open the petition window?  Didn\'t find any other post about it here, so I thought I\'d throw it out there.   Seems to be very reproducable for me at least.

OK, perhaps a little more detail is in order.  It doesn\'t necessarily seem to happen only when I open the petition window (though it was for me last night).  I just (as in right now) submitted a petition and the server went linkdead.  It was right after the server was restarted to add the food items for the tavern cook.  It is possible that this is a coincidence, but it\'s happened to me several times already, and always after I\'ve either submitted a petition, or simply opened the petition window.

Perhaps it is related to the length of my posts?  The text I submitted is rather long, so I suppose it could be a buffer overrun in the server code related to petitions.  Anyway, I\'ve submitted two petitions:

  - one relating to a player not being able to ask a question in the help channel: they kept being told they couldn\'t ask another question, yet there were no active questions for them.

  - another relating to the lowest area in the old dungeon: there is currently no way to get out without dying or asking a GM for help

Anyway, I don\'t want to experiment with it too much since crashing the server may not get me too many good karma points :P

Actually this is the moment to test server crash bugs, those need fixing first, so...get as much info
