Troika games is no more
« on: March 01, 2005, 05:50:49 pm »
It\'s a really bad news for all RPG lovers.

the studio formed by Fallout creators and wich released the hit Arcanum has closed its doors.

Black Isle and Interplay were dead (didn\'t like the AD&D games after fallout but Planescape :Torment which was sooo great), now Troika games. Is there any company left that can make a great RPG ?
But it\'s like people don\'t care that much about classical RPG nowdays. they all want MMORPG, they all want 3D and finally they all want real-time combat.

Well, right now I\'ll be waiting for Fallout 3 (Bethesda has the right to make 3 sequels). But IMO Troika was the only one that could make such game.
Why ? because I think bethesda will do what the mass market wants (read above) and it\'s not what I want for fallout 3.

Maybe I\'m just an old-school fanatic but hell, old games were so much better.

World of Warcraft is not real time combat, if you mean in the sense of a FPS. It is a bit like planshift (or should I say Planeshift is a bit like it :P )

And I have been playing Zorc of all things ^^ that is pretty fun if you have the patience to draw a map...

Don\'t forget that Obsidian Entertainment and InXille also exists, which are both formed from people that have worked at Black Isle.

Not the company counts, but the people working there. They can always go to any company (almost) or form their own, so don\'t worry, the world is not falling apart.

And Troika wasn\'t the only one capable of doing such a game like Fallout ;)

Interplay and Black Isle aren\'t dead...what about Baldur\'s Gate series, didn\'t you like them! They were great, or how about Neverwinter Nights, it was good too...and Baldur\'s Gate III....should be good...whenever they release it...

Of course they aren\'t. We can consider they\'re still \"live\" in our minds and hearts :P

neverwinter nights, the baldur\'s gates and icewind dale are all great games! so Black Isle and Interplay did some good there!

Betheseda will do a great job on Elder Scrolls IV, and I think will do a decent job on Fallout 3, Oblivion is gonna be a great game, a very good single player RPG, as good as any RPG is gonna get for awhile...

Stupid ATARI coming back like they own the world, buying AD&D licence and making not too decent game with it...what a waste...Well I hope they\'ll see that BG III is what they should do...I mean c\'mon that\'s where the money is...As long as they keep up with BG traditions I am happy...Great storyline, great inter-character relationships, great dialog scripts and a lot, lot, lot of gameplay hours...:D

but ive been thinking... BG II Throne of Bhaal sets it as the end, no matter what you choose, God or normal Human, you have no real power anymore, no storyline, well maybe some, but not everyone chooses to be human... and the end closes on all your party members and you...

so what can BG III be about? You starting anew, training as a  normal human? Baldur\'s gate was your quest as the child of Bhaal, and you aren\'t him anymore...

so all i can figure is what would BG III be about....

Maybe BG 111 will be a prequel to the other two you have to be Bhaal and create your own child ??? who knows might be fun .

It\'s sad indeed. I loved Arcanum. They also had a nice engine in production (here\'s a video)
Black Isle is dead, but Interplay isn\'t.
Who knows? Maybe Bethesda can make a good Fallout 3. Maybe not. Time will tell.
