Making custom maps
« on: March 24, 2005, 10:07:09 pm »
Hello,
How could I make my own maps? I am trying to use planeshift as a proof of concept design in my computer class. I am trying to tell the students that you can create anything you want with computers, even if it is a whole world.

I have been told planeshift does not release the map files... are there any working alternatives?

what tools do i need to make my own?

I am not familiar with all graphics issues, but when I asked about what
program is used to make maps for Planeshift, I was told it can be any 3d
modeling program.

I know there are import scripts in CrystalSpace ( this is the software component that handles maps and world areas as well as the rendering/moving around in Planeshift ) that can pull in maps and objects from the likes of Blender, 3DStudioMax, and Doom/Quake map editors.

You can also do things the hard way by specifying in text files the (x,y,z) cooridinates of each vertex of each object, and the texture used to map onto these faces, but most people find the graphical way far more intuitive for some reason :)
