Well I just think there\'s no point in raising skil levels and recruiting new members into my guild cos none of that will matter, plus I have no money and it\'s hard to make money nowadays, so i\'m guessing most people are under the same circumstances, we dont have the will, nor the means to keep playing the way we used to

Skills maybe, but if your guild has members who won\'t rejoin after something simple like a database wipe... then it isn\'t a very good guild, and they aren\'t very good members. :)

I meant my guild is so inactive nowadays ( yes I am ashamed of my troops, tut tut) that I find making it bigger and stronger to be pointless

Wipes do hurt, but whenever I go into tester mode, I expect them. Some games wipe fairly often, others wipe extremely rarely.

Either way, I can get over it when I see things getting better. To me a wipe is a small price to pay for progress, and it is not like real role players are \"losing\" their characters, for those characters live on in your head for a long time post wipe.

I still think about the fun I had during my paper and pencil RP days, and I remember the characters as fondly as I do the players.

And as far as rushing, I am of the opinion that any job worth doing is worth doing right...the first time...if at all possible. Seems to me that the devs are of the same opinion.

I have seen the results of rushing and they aint pretty folks!

------------------------

True, a good guild can even end up following each other to another game...if that isn\'t disruptive...nothing is.

Well said Lyrah,

The only things I miss about MB are 1. crystals, and 2. weather.   I can not wait until the game matures and I can hopefully find ways to make money and hopefully \"educate\" my character so that he can become more like I want him to be.  anyway, I digress.

Right now Planeshift really isn\'t much more that a Object Oriented Chat program.  ***Let me explain, before I get hacked to death by the moderators, and the DEVS.  Programming a project of this size can be imesenly complicated in a group environment, now take that same group and spread them all over the world and take away the paycheck.  Be grateful that you have programmers willing to make such a sacrifice to even attempt such a enourmous task as an online MMOPRG, and not even charging \"players\" to access it.  The team is doing a phenomenal job putting this together.  The points I am trying to make are 1. Good games take time, sometimes alot of time. and 2. The more we report bugs and assist the DEVS, the faster they can add new features (because they don\'t have to find the bugs themselves).

I know alot of people here complain about lack of community in this forum.  Well I always make it a point to at least say hello to people if they are not already engaged in conversation, or I am not busy myself.  Because I am working full time at taking ten credit hours this semester for my degree, I do not have time to log on very often at all, but once I finish my degree I hope to contribute to the project.  So if you do not see me on it is because I am trying to better myself in hopes that I may be able to contribute to a great project such as this...

Cobrec, First I feel you have your prioritys well in place.  Statistics show that just graduating high school grants a person 8 thousand dollars more a year, 2 year degree doubles that income! A four year degree...depending upon the major, can double that again.

After Masters, well you can actually hurt your job prospects, but you can also get a MUCH better job.

And Yes, the devs on this project have to have a passion for the game or they would have LONG since left the project!

As far as community, I agree with you, the \"responsibility\" for the lack of community rests in every players hands. If I want community, I have to be considerate, compassionate, and friendly.  If I want to role play, I have to gather a few friends and do it, and if I want an event...I have to think it up, and then advertise it, here and in game.

But I also know that once the game is more complete, weather, more mobs, more mining spots, fewer bugs, more players will find PS and will enjoy it as well.

But if you mean no need for other features in game, I respectfully disagree with you. I find that animations, loot like lutes, lires, harmonicas, robes/dresses/social clothing that shows, ambient sounds of laughter, cats meowing or fighting, dogs barking, hammer hitting anvil in blacksmiths shop and other sounds you would expect in this games setting (this game got the ambient sound levels RIGHT!! Kudos guys and gals, you are the FIRST out of 10 or 12 games I have either tested of played that got the ambient sound level exactly at the level I would have adjusted background to be!!!!), smoke rising from the pit at the back of the red temple, other TINY little things that grab you the PLAYER and yank you into you the CHARACTER.

What I really meant was that the game is able to be enjoyable without new features such as the ones you describe.  Those features are comming, we just have to be patient and wait for them.  But until that time comes we can still make the game fun.  We, the players can do it.  We don\'t need more features for this to be possible.  Those features are nice, but heck, alot of people play MUD\'s and even planeshift started out as one.  I think imagination is the key to a MUD in a way, and PS is somewhere inbetween right now.  As I run down the streets I imagine I see an animal peeking out from a corner, or a drunkard laying in the street in front of the tavern.  I make the features up for myself in my head.  I imagine stories of places, why they are there, etc.

In a way I actually think that all kinds of beautiful graphics, neat animations etc are akin to a movie production of a famous book.  They can add to it, make it cool and beautiful, but it will never compare to the way you originally imagined it when you read the book.  A world too perfectly drawn draws away from imaginiation.

I understand that some enjoy the game as is, and more power to them, but in its current form, I don\'t even feel that testing is worth it.  Yes I am a role player, but currently I find it very very hard to find role players in game.

Currently there are very many bugs that are known, not sure of their statis (under repair, known but debug not known, or \"just learn to live with it\"). I am used to a project that moves slightly faster than evolution.

I found another beta that I am working on, I feel more useful there.

I don\'t beta test for enjoyment, I beta test to test  and if things I find are known, and haven\'t been fixed for months, and their repair dates are \"unknown\" or \"its just a beta, get OVER it!!!\" then I pretty much feel that my time is wasted reading the forum, posting bug reports or logging on.

My plans are to keep the client (it took over six HOURS to download it, I don\'t care HOW crappy it is, it stays!) and give the project a year or two and come back to see if it is in need of a tester then.  I doubt the serious \"go away \"  attitude will change.  And I am not sure if the developers realize the harm that it is doing the game, but either way.

Thats very encouraging, and I hope the majority of newer people are treated as you were.  Hopefully your stay with Planeshift is a long and enjoyable one.

Welcome and also come to the festival!

Hope to see you there :)
