aquatic journey?
« on: July 14, 2005, 08:37:58 pm »
*Disclaimer*this is just an idea*Disclaimer*

Well I somehow thought, we have creatures that fly and creatures to travel on land, but what do the Nolthrir do?

Well as you know I am handicapped in 2D, so I modelled my idea.

It\'s mainly an aquatic insect (having an exoskeleton) at a part on the back of the creature the main nerve string seperates from the body (it\'s the thing on it\'s back), this is also where you ride it, the Nolthrir\'s carve holes into the lower side of the shell of the Nerve-string. While the back holes only serve the propose to get a grip for your feet the front holes are deeper into the shell and serve the propose of \"steering\" the creature by manipulating the nerves.

The \"wings\" of the creature only serve the porpose of \"getting forward\", while the tail is used for steering

*Edit* Thumbnailed it

ahh yeah I forgot, it has no eyes, hundreds of sonic sensors and emmiters are spread around it\'s body, so it is using Sonar for navigation normally.

I too was thinking of how the nolthrir travel. Good idea. Especially the detail with the exoscelaton ect. Very nice Cyl. 4 out of 5 rubies from Robin
Talamir - DeT, Dark Empire, etc, etc, etc.

Later I will probably add several plates of chitin to the model.

soon he\'ll be giving you 6 out of 5! whoop-d-doo...

it\'s interesting, I like the idea, and underwater way to travel, sonar navigation (like dolphins) insect, exoskeleton with chitin, but the model is kinda ugly, and high poly (I do realise it was just a 3d \"sketch\", so that isn\'t to important at the moment)
Warning: Prone to common sense.

detail!
detail!
detail!
detail!
detail!

You don\'t concept in 3d.  Period.  I suck at drawing too, but I still concept on paper.  Concepts are for trying out specific ideas and comparing them to other specific ideas.  If you \"concept\" in 3d you will inevitably end up with nothing more than a general shape.  Look at pictures of real sea creatures and of made up sea-creatures, do some 2d concepts, and *then* decide which you want to spend your time on in 3d.  I hope I don\'t sound too overly critical, it\'s a great idea to begin with, but you need to build off of it and building off of general ideas is much more efficient in 2d.

Edit: Before anyone flames me, yes, I have seen game companies that post some 3d concepts, but I promise you those are made after 2d work, some crits, and probably more 2d work.

i know what i mean.... :D

but more isn\'t needed. the real concept drawings from games and movies are made by professional artistst, who make their money out of it.
