Noobies beware
« on: August 25, 2005, 08:36:15 pm »
If you are a new player, to this game, and expect to find some help to get you started, well, your frustrations have just begun.

If you think you are going to jump right into a game of adventure, fight monsters, and play, then be warned and foretold... \"This is Not the game version for you!\" keep your KO or Runescape or whatever, account open.

There is No definitive game manual, no \"Real\" nor satisfactory help... either from other players (normally), written, or by your futile attempt to get a straight answer to a frustrating situation online.

If you don\'t have patience or a \"totally freakin weird\" vocabulary, to even attempt to communicate with the NPC\'s.... I\'d say free up whatever disk space you just clogged-up now, and give it another try in about 2 or 3 years, (min).
This game has more bugs, than a Everglades trailer park.

Dear Noob,
Don’t just read the forum “topics” to get an idea of what I’m talking about, read some of the smart-a$$ replies, when someone asks for a pittance of help. Callous as it may be, noobies are not wanted here. God forbid you have little or no experience with RPG’s of this type.
Regardless of the “Flaming” I get for this posting, unless a little more player support is offered now, you can expect even less when the game becomes playable.

Tootles.

Hmm, let\'s see... everyone knows about the massively in-depth and incredibly detailed Player Guide on the website. Everyone knows that quests are quite broken and the NPC talking system is primitive at the moment. Everyone knows this is a pre-alpha development game, and things arn\'t all polished and pristine like you\'re probably used to with commercial MMORPGs.

Most help topics in the Newbie and Technical Help areas are answered with more patience than I would ever expect, for answers that can be found by simply glancing over the forum or reading the Player\'s Guide before clicking the New Thread button.

There are many people in the forums and ingame who are willing to help as much as possible, when sufficient details are given and respect is shown. I\'m sorry to hear you\'ve had bad experiences so far, would you care to tell us exactly who has put you in such an unforgiving mood?

Whether you\'re leaving or staying, good luck. :)

Moogie\'s points are the status of the art.

This game as far as I know, at the moment at least, doesn\'t pretend to be considered finished or comparable to a commercial game. We all known that there are bugs and that the game is deeply in development and unfortunately, this is the reality.
Maybe things are slow, but it is true that everybody try to do their best for both developing the game as fast as possible with regards to their free time, and to help whoever is around.

Just check how many posts there are in the forums and how many answers - often similar to each other - you can get.

Also on the IRC channels of Planeshift you find people just there for helping others.

The game manual is there available to everybody, if you see some part that needs to be fixed, you can just drop a line in the bugtracker.
About the no real help online, I really think you had bad luck with something, because, honestly, I cannot see that point at all.

Maybe give another chance or read with a different point of view what you have - in my opinion - misunderstood?

For what you\'re looking for apparently, yes.
See you in a few years.  We\'ll still be here.

Anyone who doesn\'t want to test play a game that\'s still in development should not be here.  On the other hand, if you\'re willing to do so, and can act a little nicer, we\'ll be glad to help you as best we can.

Someone couldn\'t be more wrong...

... I always found the answers I needed by switching to the Help channel.
