I want to gte minGW but on their site it is a HUGE file list, which file should download?

if you look at the version numbers and dates, most have not had a new version in years. I use the following:
MinGW-4.1.0.exe
MSYS-1.0.10.exe
MsysDTK-1.0.1.exe

and gdb, which is usefull for actually debugging.

Install in that order, follow the guides in /docs, etc.
player -> gm -> dev -> bum

Or try cygwin, which also has a nice interface for installation and updates. A huge package list, you can also run xfree in there. :)
