Windows 2000 Server & Planeshift
« on: December 04, 2002, 12:41:13 am »
Time of test: 6:20PM Eastern Standard Time )USA)
OS: Windows 2000 Server
Processor: Duron 1300Mhz
RAM: 256Mb
Video Card: Geforce 4 Mx420
Video Card Memory: 64Mb DDR
PS Client Version: Atomic Blue
OpenGL or Safe Mode: Both.
Description of the bug: After creating my character and attempting to start the game, Planeshift hangs at \"Initializing world\".  CTRL+ALT+DEL reveals that Planeshift has stopped responding, and 50% of the time an error message is generated.  The error message was captured and converted to a gif image, .  After crashing out, I attempted to relog in, only to find the error message \"That player is currently logged in and playing.\"

In safe mode, the client just crashes to desktop every time I load it.

I\'d really love to be able to play this game, it looks incredible and has quite a community about it.

I am having the same problem, I don\'t know if Win 2k+ can run it or not, so, the only thing we can do is wait till someone helps us.

That should have been said in a private message, but that quote has been going around for a while, it isn\'t original anymore, and he probably doesn\'t know what it means.

It does work on windows 2000, thast what i have, and it did wait at initializing world for a while, but if u wait long enough, 30 minutes in my case, heard almost an hour for some others, it should load, and then load fine after that.

I also run W2kPro.
and had to let it take its time to load.

couple other things i did as well
1. compatablitilty on shortcut icon is at w95, i see others have tried w98 as well

2.  under internet options, I have my privacy settings for cookies set to high, which will block various funcitions of many sites.
so under edit, i copy the url to override cookies settings for individual sites .. in this case,  gamiix. com.

good luck.  also after intial loading i now find it only takes a minute or maybe two at most.

peace

Actually, I fixed the problem and posted the solution in another thread.

Kiern - Windows2000 Server does not have a compatibility option.  That\'s Windows XP.

Link - no, it wasn\'t responding, since it crashed to desktop.  Since I am on a T1 line, when I fixed the problem it loaded in a little under a minute.

Jessyn and Link - Thanks Jessen.  The 10 is not a reference to the number ten.  It\'s binary for two.

Kyalin - Thanks, but there was an undocumented error that I have since fixed.

Xaminor - There is no compatibility option for Windows2000 Server.  I have no cookie restrictions.  There was an undocumented error that I have since fixed, and posted in another thread.

Search on google for Windows 2000 compatibility mode and you should get the command to turn it on.

That is a little besides the point, since I found the undocumented error and corrected it.  It was not a Windows Compatibility error.
