problems with Updater.jar
« on: December 20, 2005, 11:22:03 am »
Hi.
i just downloaded the Planeshift3D104x.zip.gz, unpacked \'em and tryed to run it, but it does\'nt work. Ran with output it says:
Code: [Select]
jojoo@pea:/private/tmp/Planeshift 3D$ sudo java -jar Updater.jar
Password:
Exception in thread \"main\" java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError
Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Illegal pattern character \'t\'
        at java.text.SimpleDateFormat.compile(SimpleDateFormat.java:678)
        at java.text.SimpleDateFormat.initialize(SimpleDateFormat.java:497)
        at java.text.SimpleDateFormat.(SimpleDateFormat.java:446)
        at java.text.SimpleDateFormat.(SimpleDateFormat.java:427)
        at Updater.(Updater.java:38)

OS is 10.4.?
Java is 1.5.0 since

Code: [Select]
jojoo@pea:/private/tmp/Planeshift 3D$ java  -version
java version \"1.5.0_02\"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_02-56)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_02-36, mixed mode, sharing)

CurrentJVM links to 1.5.0. In this funny \"Java Preferences.app\" 1.5 is the highest entry.

hope someone can help me running the updater.

Go ahead and redownload just the updater from the link in the Guide. There seems to be an error in Java relating to localized date/time settings (if you were in the US, you wouldn\'t have this problem ;) )... Hopefully, my update will fix it.

seems your update worked. At least the Updater is downloading some data
you\'re damn fast. thanx a lot.

by the way: in your guide you mention ln -fsh.
The h option is unreconized.

By the way: the Updater says things like:

Error updating file art/sounds/gui/bttn_scrolldown.wav

, and that very often (but other files) is this a problem?

What mirror are you using? And did you check the \"Update individual zip entries\" box (you should NOT check it)?

\"-h\" should work fine. Sure you\'ve got the latest OS (10.4.3)?
From man:
Quote
-h
If the target_file or target_dir is a symbolic link, do not follow
it.  This is most useful with the -f option, to replace a symlink
which may point to a directory.

As for being speedy, well... I try. :)

I have 10.4.\"less than 3\"

updating the symlink was a pita, mc then did the job well. Seems i should upgrade.

I leave the mirror field blank, which one should i use?

I\'d suggest you use 2. 3 might work for you as well, but it\'s been known to have some issues with some people.
