RAM & ME
« on: January 18, 2006, 02:41:03 am »
Hi, I\'ve looked around and don\'t know if this is a silly question or not. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew if/how I can take advantage of the overabundance of RAM with this game.  I\'m using a G4 powerbook 1.33 Ghz PPC4 with 2 gigs of 333fsb RAM.  I have only middling-beginning experience with macs (just switched to this thing a year ago), and I\'m always trying to fight for more performance.  This game has serious issues, and my little 64mb video card isn\'t helping, I can tell.  I\'m just wondering if there are tweaks or something some technophile (besides all the crap in the \"important\" threads) knows about that could make this game slightly less painful (oi, the headaches).  Thanks in advance.

Well, you can check the \"Load All Maps\" in pssetup. That\'ll eliminate loadings screens once  you get in-game. But I don\'t know of any tweaks to improve performance through use of RAM. You should try the adaptive distancing option.

Yeah, I did\'nt think so.  I don\'t know how safe it is to, like, quit processes and the like under OS X.  I don\'t know if maybe my router or wireless isn\'t the big issue.

It might be your internet, but Planeshift doesn\'t take much net traffic. I\'d be much more inclined to blame the video card. Try adaptive distancing and see if it helps. Quitting processes would not likely help, as most of the background stuff isn\'t using any graphical memory anyway.

You\'re probably right.  The internet is fine.  The Video card is just a few generations too old, I guess.  Gah!  The indignities of using a laptop for playing video games.
