No "Rain" when using the linuxclient?
« on: January 30, 2006, 11:17:55 am »
Hey.
Yesterday i visited a friend and noticed that it started to rain ingame while he was playing PS . He uses Windows.
I have never seen Rain in PS since i installed CB!
Is there something wrong with the linuxclient or is this related to my configuration?

Specs:
- Debian (SID/unstable), Kernel 2.6.11
- Latest PS (binary Installer, with r4-Patch), all files are uptodate

-AMD Athlon 64 3200+
-1024 MB PC3200
-Nvidia GF 6600 GT ( NVIDIA 81.78 )

Any ideas?

Rain is very rare in Yliakum so I do not think it has anything to do with Linux or your client. Only high level GMs and developers can make it raining and they don\'t do it so often. One of the reasons is that raining happened to crash a lot of clients. I guess because the server was patched yesterday, it just happened that some developers were testing it.

I have seen it raining in my Linux client and the problem was that it never stopped for me and I had to restart my client :D

Rain is something more \"client sided\" rather than server side, so I think they were just playing with it, as it has happened in the past.

It is true that rain is quite rare in PS, but it is also true that for a certain period some installer didn\'t have the CS plugins for rain and snow (I think it was the MacOS one).

Anyway, the feature has been not so much used because of the bugs, crashes, and whatever it was generating.

I have been working on these issues during the latest months, and I am quite confident that things are getting better. I have fixed some things and I have tested them, but a more massive kind of test is surely needed.
THis will happen for sure, when the next client will be released.
And this will happen when things will get better with the amount of bugs we have had lately, and with the stability of the server.
