Universal?
« on: February 26, 2006, 02:56:13 am »
Are there any plans to make the Mac client for the new version universal? I don\'t have an Intel Mac but I have been thinking about getting one. I\'ll admit I haven\'t played PS recently either, probably not since .011, mostly due to lack of time, but I still check back here every so often.

It depends on CrystalSpace really. dfryer is the person to answer this question, as I don\'t know if CrystalSpace supports this.

Well I am no programmer, but if you think about it CrystalSpace runs on both PPC and Intel architectures.
So one could assume that the source code is designed to run on both natively. I think it is just a matter of recompiling the source to run on MacIntel.
Also once the majority of Apple clients have crossed over to MacIntel compiling PS for OS X should be a lot easier. Which is a good thing because that means that there will be less downtime between releases.
Again I remind you that I am no programmer and it is just an assumption based on logic. :D

Of course. What you\'re saying makes sense, and I agree. But I don\'t know. ;) Dfryer is the one to ask, as I said. He\'ll probably drop by at some point soon...

We would have to change some build mojo somewhere to create universal binaries, but everything (CS, CEL, PS etc.) should compile on an Intel mac and work.  There might be a few kinks but nothing seriously stopping it from happening.
