Engine questions
« on: January 01, 2003, 02:19:04 pm »
Hey guys, great looking game :)

I found your site from a link on the Crystal Space page.  I\'ve toyed with the CS engine a few times over the past 2 years and found it to be lacking in several areas.  Then I see your screenshots and see that you\'re using CS.  Wow :)

My question is how much have you had to modify the CS engine to produce your results?  The landscapes in your screenshots look much better than anything I\'ve seen produced with CS.  But if CS can be made to do that without too much hassle, then I may check it out again.

We haven\'t made any custom modifications to CS for Planeshift, although several of us have contributed certain minor features to it to get effects we need.  Also, the director of the CS project (and main coder) works closely with us, mostly concerning performance issues and the best ways to implement certain things we want.

So how are you able to get those nice landscapes in some of the screenshots?  The few times I\'ve tried out CS, it was mainly indoor-type stuff.  Didn\'t know it could handle landscapes like that.

It doesn\'t know or care what it is rendering--box or landscape.

The key, it seems, is having decent artists do the artwork and not programmers. :-)
