Need help in making a head for my fenki model
« on: March 07, 2007, 10:48:17 pm »
Sorry if this is not in the right place

I'm trying make a 3d model of my character Illysia. :D  Right now all I have done is the body, hands and feet. I'm having trouble in making a head for her since:
1.) This is only my second week in character modeling (and I missed the lecture on how to do the character I was actually assigned to do.)
2.) I can't find good pics to work from (cat or fenki)

I also don't know how to make clothes for her while I'm at it.  :sweatdrop:

I'm currently using 3D S Max to make her. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hiya Illysia!

How did you do the body? Did you set up two planes with the front and side views? If you are familiar with this method, the head is started the same way. Therefore you need front and side views, and if you can't find them, you will have to make them yourself. Without this setup, modeling is a lot harder.

Hiya!

I know that way of modeling, but the screen shots I have aren't good for modeling it that way. I can't take any better shots; I tried. I basically modeled blind, but it turned out decent. Besides Illysia is thicker than the average fenki, :) She deviates from the normal fenki model in proportions. Not to mention I want Illysia to have a fuller, fluffier face than the in-game fenkis. She spends much time picnicing.  ;D

So what you could do is take screenshots that look approximately right, model the very basic form, and then adjust it as necessary :) You definitely want to avoid modeling blind when you're just starting out.

Funnily enough, I knew to do that, but all my previous attempts failed; however, it does give me an idea for one last try. You wouldn't happen to have a suggestion on how to make clothes for her?

Depending on the detail you are after, you can either make the clothes flat textures or build them around her body model. The best 3D tutorial I've ever seen is around this model of Joan of Arc, and includes accessories. It's really worth looking at - I have it bookmarked :D

Did you say fenki?

Then after you model you can use a bumped fur like that

It's in french, but easyly understandable.
