requirements to high
« on: April 18, 2006, 06:23:39 pm »
Why requirements should be to high??
I mean 512 Mb of memory...

Couldn\'t it have a \"light mode\" of the game with less effects and less textures?

The game could have more players... more people to kill.
If the game have that requirements it will be a \"only people with great hardware game\"

Thanks!

\"More people to kill\"? Sounds like you haven\'t familiarized yourself with what PlaneShift is really about.

The requirements aren\'t high at all - World of Warcraft,  Everquest II, Ryzom, even free games like Silkroad Online recommend that you have 512MB of RAM. PlaneShift is playable with 256 if the rest of your system is above the minimum requirement as well, but face it - you need a good computer to play massive 3D games. You can take some steps to increase performance slightly (there have been threads made on this before), but the better your system, the better your experience.

Did you ever run the PlaneShift setup tool (pssetup)? In the bottom right area, you see sliders which can lower the texture size. I found that 1/4 still looks acceptable and allowed me to run PlaneShift well on a Duron 800 with 256 MB.

At least the versions 0.3.010-0.3.012; then i got another used memory bar.

My personal bottleneck is my harddisk controller. Reloading textures and especially character details is very consuming (I wonder if the caching of models and related textures does not work well).

For Windows XP, 256mb is the minimum for word processing, so 512 isnt out of line especially concidering the amount of data that has the be used for the areas.

Now, I do have to say, sometimes with 512mb of RAM, Planeshift runs badly. It was horrid on my Mac mini with 512mb of ram, and 1.42ghz G4, but I'd bet the bottle necks there are the GPU (32mb) and harddrive. Its nice on my AMD64 2800+ with a gig of ram and 128mb Radeon 9200 and Linux, with the only issue being lag from my connection.
