Possible Improvement for "repair kits"/skill
« on: August 27, 2006, 11:09:20 am »
Hello all,

I really like the changes made which resultated in detoriation of weapons/armor and the implementation of repair skill(s).

While working on my weapon repair skill a few possible improvements came to my mind:

1) I really dislike (for strength reasons and because of realism) that you have to stack repair kits and that after each repair process the whole kit is used up.
I could imagine using the "quality rating" we have and substract repairs from the quality, which means each repair process substracts some points of quality ("repair kit gets used up more and more") from the quality rating. Points repaired could be reduced wehn the quality of the kit drops below certain values. When the kit reaches quality 0, it can no longer be used. Price of one kit should of course be adjusted from 40 trias up to several hundred for example. Hereby different qualities of kits could in the long run also be implemented (like an "expert kit" which looses less quality/repair or repairs more damage in te same amount of time).

2) A time bar for the repair process would be nice (like the casting bar).

3) There are currently still bugs when you repair and fight (repair process becomes endless) or when you restart a repair process after a fight.

What do you think?

is it in the plans--or a reasonable request--to eventually make a mold for casting repair kits?-- like have say molten iron or molten  steel make 2-6 kits each when left to cool in the molds?

I was thinking it made sense with a higer weapon repair skill coupled with a certain minimum metalurgy...

As it stands it isn't profitable to craft shortswords or daggers as they aren't worth more than the iron you'd mined... I figure the above would make for some worthwhile work..

as an alternative to Meketh's idea... Which i like a lot by the way.

The repair kits are in early stages.  We just needed something quickly because we added the decreasing quality system.  I envision that crafters will be able to make all manners of repair kits.
