About combat skillz

Is it better to train just one combat skill like for example: "Swords" And forget the others, or train anyone you like?
Oh yeah, im new here.

Try them all and see what you like.  Levelling up is easy so don't worry about switching specialties.

Or, you could actually ROLEPLAY and pick the weapon best suited to your CHARACTER.  Just a thought. :@#\

Welcome to PlaneShift :}

You're only going to use the skill related to your equipped weapon - so if you have trained "Swords" to 20 but are holding a dagger, it's your "Knives & Daggers" skill that will be taken into consideration, and your damage will be minimal if you've never trained that skill before. Pick one your character would use the most, and if you find extra time on your hands or like a challenge, do as many as you'd like. There are no limits except your time and effort when it comes to how many skills you'd like.

I have a question about the combat skills as well:

As a Kran I would never even think about training "knives & toothpicks"-skill.
But I wonder wether training the skill for swords or training Strength or Agility helps me survive longer.

I don't know why I get hit for 20-30 points (by a Rogue) sometimes and armor doesn't seem to help any bit.

For armor to be more effective, train the related armor-skill. Light Armor or Medium Armor. It will help you dodge attacks.

When it comes to choosing a weapon skill or a stat, choose the weapon skill. While Strength and Agility certainly help, the main force is "Swords" or "Knives & Daggers" or "Axes," etc.
