Server Failed (Yes, I already read the guide)

I red the info about having trouble with the server, but I still can't reach the server.
I turned off my firewall, I checked servers.xml file to make sure it was set to port 7777, I'm trying to connect from my own home, and I pinged the server successfully. I am at a loss of what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

You're fully updated? Not at a school or business?

The utility used to test server connectivity sends udp packets through port 7777.  If you are using ping from a business, college, or other entity with a network department, they may be blocking port 7777. A router may be blocking port 7777.  Also, some dsl modems and cable modems have been known to have internal firewalls which may block it by default.  If you cannot ping any other websites, please download your modem's respective guides to troubleshoot them and see which ports they allow.  I would also check to make sure OSX isnt blocking the port by default. Make sure port 7777 is open in all the areas mentioned. If you have trouble with port forwarding your router, try visiting: http://www.portforward.com/.

I am having the same problem.  I connect and start running around, and within 30 seconds I get the "Server is not responding, try back in 5 minutes" message.  However, my situation is even stranger.  I have been playing PS over the last week religiously.  I was even playing it a few hours before I left for work.  But when I came home, I couldn't connect (or stay connected).  That was almost 4 hours ago now.  I have been constantly checking the server status, and it claims to running fine with 80+ users. 

The only thing I changed between the many many hours it worked fine and now was adjusting some settings in pssetup.  Specifically, I tried using a different resolution and adjusted downwards the quality / speed options.  Even though I changed them back, nothing.  Could they have altered the config file in such a way as to not be fixed when returning to default settings? 

Just in case: I am running a powerbook g4 (1.25) with 768 ram, ati radeon 9600 (64MB), and OS X 10.4.8.

  Technical questions like this can be very difficult to troubleshoot, not to mention really confusing, if you dont display the exact same symptoms and only those symptoms.  He never said he could connect and run around. These are most likely two completely different questions. Please make your own thread.

Sorry.     Rookie mistake.  After combing the forum for hours looking for "server failed" and the like, I guess they just all started to run together.
